   Had the worst dining experience at Canton cafe, which was surprising because we’ve tried so many Chinese restaurants—small and big—and most of them serve fantastic food. Unfortunately, this one was the least appetising of all. As soon as we walked in, the first thing the staff asked was whether we had a booking. We said no, and the very next question was, “Will you be done by 6:30?” We arrived at 5:30 and were starving, so we agreed and sat down. We ordered: • Crispy fried chicken • Stir-fried vegetarian noodles • Ginger & scallion chicken on rice A few minutes later, we were told the crispy fried chicken wasn’t available—even though it was early evening. Odd, but fine. The food came out and things only got worse. The vegetarian noodles were completely bland, basically just noodles with a few bean sprouts. The chicken on rice was the most average dish we’ve ever had in Auckland. Absolutely nothing stood out. The staff seemed disinterested the entire time, and while Asian restaurants aren’t usually known for over-the-top hospitality, they at least deliver good food. Sadly, not the case here.

   Husband has recommended this place and treated us here for his bday. The food did not disappoint. Everything was delicious. My favorite was the hot&spicy chicken and black bean prawns. Service was good. Attendants were pleasant and nice. This cafe is underrated, people should visit here often.

   Can't believe this was the first time I'd been here but was here for my colleagues birthday dinner and the food was just great! Fish, sizzling beef, tofu, chow mein, dim sum, sweet and sour pork and also ordered a chicken dish but can't recall which one specifically. The only dish I didn't like was the tofu but am not a fan of tofu in general anyway so this was not surprising for me. I had rice and of course BYO and I bought one of my favourite inexpensive wines (Brown Brother Dolcetto and Syrah). Can't quite recall how much the corkage is but think it is NZD3.00 per bottle. Our table was upstairs (I had no idea there was seating upstairs) and there's also tables on the balcony upstairs. I brought a cake and candles for the birthday boy. You need to book a table in advance unless you want to wait and there is a time limit if it is busy and it was on the Friday that I was there. Good location and the restaurant was a residential house so you're essentially dining in a former bedroom or in our case a former living room! Waitresses were great and took care of us.

   Went to try this cafe as recommended by a friend. We ordered deep fried squid, lemon chicken, sizzling black pepper lamb, special Maggie sauce king prawns. Food was nice.

   Lovely cafe and service, prices are reasonable as portions feed multiple people. Tea and fruit was a lovely touch. Will definitely go again.

   I recently have lunch there, and it was fantastic. The dishes were incredibly flavorful, the staff was friendly, and the service was fast. They also allow you to bring your own alcohol. recommended for delicious cuisine in a welcoming atmosphere.

   Awesome food, awesome service, and reasonable prices. I’ve been a Canton Cafe customer for many years - both dine in and take away. I’ve never had a bad experience. There is a reason why this restaurant has been in business for so long and continues to be extremely popular!

   I have been coming to this place for over 20yrs now! Restaurant was introduced to me by my in-laws. Never have liked Chinese food but this place changed my taste buds! It’s absolutely mouth watering. We don’t really explore the menu as we only order few regular dishes. Prawns with black chill sauce and chicken fried rice is the best and top selling items! What’s surprising is the flavour has not changed since the day one I had them! Keep up the good work and maybe a tinny suggestion, just need a better customer service and it will be a 5 star! Thank you
