Remutaka Forest Park is a stunning natural forest. It has well-maintained roads and is very easy to access. There are camping sites with public toilets and a room that can be used as a kitchen. The campsites are very scenic, and there are outdoor picnic areas as well. The parking lots are large, accommodating many vehicles easily. There are beautiful bush walks inside, and you can also access the river for swimming. It’s a highly recommended spot for families to visit, especially in summer. Public restrooms were very clean with soap and water available.
Beautiful park, very popular and seems to be a camping hot spot.
A great area to enjoy the bush and be more adventurous if you like.
Wow wow wow...thats all i can say ...beautiful place for family walk or hike with you best buddies..trust me you will go again...but pls bring your stuff back..Dont even think to dump rubbish...its truly protected by gods...like New Zealand.
I've done several walks in that park and damn they were all worth it, some way harder than others, but the views did not disappoint in any way! Would highly recommand it as long as you have water with you, especially during summer time!
Most popular gateway entrance to the Rimutaka Forest Park. Great public camping ground; free gas-fired BBQS in the picnic areas; great facilities, including the superb and well-equipped Catchpool Centre which is available for hire.
Ive hiked the orongorongo track to the orongorongo river, plus the big bend trail, then the whakanui to wainuiomata. Orongorongo trail is easy return from the catchpool carpark. Big bend also fairly easy trail. Whakanui requires fitness and good legs. All three of these trails well maintained. Check the DOC website for all three trails and take the correct clothing! Orongorongo river not always safe after rain. Note catchpool carpark gate ia automated - dont hang around near closing time! Public (flush) wc available south side of catchpool main carpark.
