Very helpful and kind staff, especially the night-time guy in Reception. With the receptionist having to personally open the main door during the night, it feels safe to walk around the shared area at night.
I recently stayed at Nomads Capital Backpackers – Wellington and I felt truly at home. From the moment I walked in, the warm welcome I received, especially from Isabel at reception, made all the difference. She was incredibly kind, attentive, and seemed genuinely invested in making my stay comfortable. The interior is beautiful and thoughtfully designed, with cozy communal areas that feel inviting, a lovely courtyard, and a fully equipped kitchen that feels like a shared living room rather than a hostel. Everything is clean, well maintained, and the vibe is relaxed yet vibrant. Best of all, it’s affordable without compromising on quality or friendliness. Whether you're arriving solo or with friends, looking to explore Wellington on a budget or just want a welcoming place to rest, this is it. I wholeheartedly recommend Nomads Capital to anyone in Wellington, or anywhere in New Zealand really, who’s searching for budget accommodation with a friendly heart, warm smiles, and a truly homey atmosphere. Ordered a deluxe queen bedroom and it didn't even have a fridge, or cups to have water in. The shower had a curtain to keep the water out. I've stayed at nice places, and this place was okay. I would have preferred to spend a little bit more to get a better place someplace else. Nonetheless had a good discount on the rooms because of a membership, and the staff were so lovely and nice. I've stayed here before and it's always done a good job. For the deluxe Queen bedroom they could do better, nonetheless it did a great job and even had show watching apps on the TV!! That was cool. Watched some great movies - the blind side & Shawshank redemption. The location is AMAZING too. Very convenient place to be. Overall it wasn't horrible but I know it could be better, especially considering we had a deluxe room The staff were really helpful and helped upgrade the room and have the same room for the duration of the stay. Did the job, amazing staff members
Worst hostel ever! After travelling around Australia and New Zealand for a year this is by far the worst hostel I have stayed in. We checked into a room on the second floor, it smelt disgusting. There was only one working shower and toilet for the whole floor and this looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in weeks, the shower drain just filled up with dirty water and hair! After one night we requested to move rooms due to our roommates who thought it was appropriate to make calls at 4:30am waking the room up. Despite the hostel not being fully booked we couldn’t move rooms so our experience was the same for the next night. Our final night we moved rooms to one that smelt worse and that appear to have homeless people staying in which is very unfortunate. However, placing us with fellow backpackers or guests the same age would have been more appropriate. The kitchen was also disgusting, half the hobs didn’t work making it hard to cook at night, there was no cutlery or other equipment to use. Overall incredible disappointment with our stay which is a shame because Wellington is a lovely place!
This is one of the nicest hostels I’ve stayed in. The private room with ensuite was clean and spacious. The staff was friendly and it was in a central location near Cuba Street. They do have free wifi and it was pretty fast. They have a communal fridge and laundry that are clean and easy to use. They also do a good job of recommending places and host a weekly happy hour.
Having stayed in many hostels, I'd put Nomads Capital Wellington pretty far down on my list. The redeeming quality was that the staff were very pleasant. However: my room was quite dirty; the bathroom shower in our room was plugged and flooded; the showers and bathrooms on my floor were also broken, so I had to shower two floors up; and the room itself was so small that I could barely squeeze between a bunk bed and the wall to get to my own bed. I would not stay here again.
Black mould on curtains, The rooms were very hot and humid at night and have little to no ventilation other than a cheap floor fan, both bathrooms on our floor were out of order and showers were flooding after 1 minute of use. The alternative showers on the third floor had not been cleaned and had vomit in the sink and shower from hours before, the staff do not seem to care that much
