I like the food and service here, just that the location is surrounded by a few homeless people. Otherwise, just like any other Cantonese restaurants, I love the dishes here. Very abundant and large portions for sharing. My favourite dish this time, will be the Tofu Caserole.

Comes with food on carts, which is always nice. Good quality; not the best place in Auckland, but don't hesitate to go if you're in the neighbourhood. The half eaten photos are a sign of quality.

The Yacht Chinese Restaurant in Avondale used to be much busier, often packed with Chinese tour groups enjoying their meals. While the crowds may have thinned, the restaurant still offers a decent experience, particularly for yum cha lovers, though it’s not without its shortcomings. The yum cha here is good and meets expectations. The variety of dim sum on offer is what you would expect from a Chinese restaurant of this caliber, and the flavors are satisfying. The dishes, such as the har gow (shrimp dumplings) and siu mai (pork dumplings), are well-prepared. However, while the quality is there, I found that the pricing leans toward the higher side, making it not the most affordable option for regular dining. One thing that stood out during my recent visit was the lean pork congee with century egg (皮带瘦肉粥). Traditionally, this dish is served with fried dough sticks (油条) on the side, adding that nice crunchy texture to complement the smooth congee. However, when we ordered it, we noticed that the dough sticks were missing. When we inquired about it, the waitress informed us that they simply don’t include them. It seemed a bit unusual, and I couldn’t help but wonder if this was a cost-saving measure. Congee without 油条 feels incomplete, so that was a bit of a letdown. Overall, the dining experience was enjoyable, though not exceptional. The restaurant does a good job of maintaining its standards, but small details like missing traditional elements can impact the experience. Since I live quite far away, it’s hard to justify returning frequently, especially with the slightly higher prices. If you’re in the area and craving some decent yum cha, The Yacht is a solid option, though be prepared for a slightly higher bill than expected.

First time visit since name/management change, a number of years back for yumcha. Good selection and quality was very acceptable, but parking was a challenge on a Sunday morning with the Avondale markets taking place.

google map had the wrong hours. It was open at night until 10pm and didn't rest for seven days. Don’t miss the delicious meal.

Ordered their food online and hoping to take it away after 30mins. But they just started cooking after I arrived there, so totally waited for 55mins for 3 dishes. The owner also told me that online order is usually for kiwi, so the price difference is $15 per dish more than the usual price. It was so shocking! I ordered a simple cucumber salad, the cucumber was slimy and going off soon. Another tofu dish had no tofu, but some kind of mixed flour with prawn and sausage. Deep fried prawn was salty even though I requested less salt. The horrible experience costed me $135 for 3 disgusting dishes. Had to throw them in the bin.

Our favourite dim sum restaurant in Auckland, opens earlier than other’s, the price is cheaper than other dim sum place. Food is great, and it has all the dim sum staples. Even though they are short staff but service is efficient, accomodating and prompt. This morning, only 1 female staff was manning the phones, servicing 4 tables and handling the bills was amazing! We appreciated her prompt service of offering a spacious table to accomodate 2 adults and a high chair along with kiddies bowl and spoon. If you want a place for good dim sum, opens early, well priced and not looking for fancy decor, this is a good place to go.
