   My partner and I are to travel to Japan soon, so we ventured to a recommended local Japanese restaurant to check out food options. Staff are friendly and polite without being in your face. Food was amazing, with a choice of chopsticks or western utensils. Alcohol available, but we chose not to drink. The only problem was that we were fed so quickly that we were out the door in under an hour...

   I'm so glad we tried Hayami. The food was excellent along with the service. The food must have arrived at the table in less than 10mins after ordering. Reasonably priced good quality wine too.. The decor inside gave a real Japanese feel, which just added to everything. It was one of the best Japanese I've had in Auckland.

   Lovely restaurant, the staff were friendly and helpful. We had no problems with (small) decorations on the table for my daughter's birthday and they helped with the cake as well. The food was delicious, fresh and appealing. My mother had tofu with her dish which she usually doesn't like but loved the silky texture and flavours. The wine list was good, not the usual offerings and reasonably priced. The restaurant was clean and intimate and we certainly want to return! Thank you for making our evening a great one!

   This was the first time we had tried Hayami and it did not disappoint the meal was delicious and was plenty to fill us up. The miso soup was extra tasty and I've been known to leave that for others. So all in all an amazing meal and great attentive service.

   It wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t amazing either. The chilli chicken was good well cooked. Sushi wasn’t mouthwatering fresh. The gyoza was a little overcooked. The soy beans were a little old and rubbery. Beware the water glass as it’s super light

   Service was fine and promt, food was tasty...however I was so embarrassed by the couple of strands of seaweed salad they served. It would have been better left off the plate. The sushi was fine, very thinly cut and wasn’t served with ginger or wasabi. The scotch fillet was the saving grace and nicely cooked, served with a delicious sauce on top. The $36 price tag did not justify the meal at all!! The rice bowl wasn’t even filled to the top , they also do serve you a SMALL salad before the meal. Nothing worth photographing. The high price and lack there of meal has me astounded. Will not be retuning or recommending. Asahi Japanese in bakehouse lane Orewa is a far better restaurant featuring lower prices and greater portion size.
