We ordered a family pack chicken biryani from the East Coast Road branch and were charged $87, which is absolutely unacceptable for what we received. There was hardly any chicken in the biryani — maybe 5–7 tiny pieces for a family pack. It was mostly rice with almost no chicken. For this price, it is shocking. At other Indian takeaways and restaurants, we usually pay around $55 for a family pack with proper portions. This was nowhere near worth $87. I called the store to raise this issue, and the experience was just as bad. The person answering the phone could barely understand English. While I was explaining that there was hardly any chicken in the biryani, he kept saying “What? Sorry? I don’t understand.” It was extremely frustrating. On top of that, there was no apology at all. I was told, “Next time you come, we’ll give you more chicken.” That response makes no sense — how would they even recognise us? And after such poor food and service, why would anyone want to return? We have been regular customers, but the quality has been getting worse and worse. Even their momos are dry now. For comparison, Royal Indian Cuisine in Dairy Flat is much better — we go there often, the owner knows us, and the food and service are consistently good. Kabana in Takapuna is also excellent — easily 100/100 for quality and taste. We live just two minutes away from this East Coast Road store, yet we will never go back. The service is pathetic, the food quality is poor, and the lack of apology or accountability is unacceptable. They seriously need to replace the person answering the phone, because this level of communication is not okay for a business. I do not recommend this place at all. Very disappointing experience and definitely not worth $87.

I’ve been to this takeaway shop so many times and the staff are always so friendly and welcoming. The vibes are great and the aroma from the food has an amazing smell around the shop. The food, is amazing. They always get just the right amount of spice jn where it’s hot and nice but not too hot that it’s not edible. I highly recommend trying them out if you haven’t already. Best part for me is that theyre open late every night making it perfect to grab a warm curry on the way home after the pub.

We use to come every second week here. But since doing the pizzas the last three orders have been wrong either in spice or totally wrong meal. Maybe they need someone better on the phones. It is disappointing to say that we no longer come or recommend it to others.

“Located right on East coast Road, Royal Indian Cuisine is a gem! Their goat chicken is absolutely fabulous, full of flavor and perfectly cooked. The staff members are very friendly and have a great nature, making the experience even better. A must-try for anyone who loves authentic Indian food!”

Extremely disappointing experience. This was the worst chicken curry and garlic naan I’ve had in New Zealand. The curry had barely any chicken pieces, and the naan was undercooked and doughy. To make things worse, the customer service was terrible—unhelpful and indifferent. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

Another fantastic meal tonight from our local Curry Shop, Royal Indian Cuisine. Chicken Tikka Masala and Chicken Saagwala both creamy and delicious. Naan was very good too. The service is great and the staff friendly. Their Combos are a great deal.

We've regularly ordered from this place as the food has always been full of flavour, however today our curry was floating in oil. I thought it was due to having sat for a while before I picked up but when stirred through, there was still a heavy layer of excess oil which is disappointing.

Got a $18 lunch combo with chefs choice curry. Naan was not well cooked, curry was okay. Overall would have been better if the Naan was well cooked. Suggestions to owner, keep the place neat and tidy so you would get more customers....

AUTHENTIC INDIAN FOOD!!! Im asian and I approve of this!! Was driving along the road looking for lunch and came across this little stall.decided to give ut a try. If you’re looking for real authentic indian food, this is really the place to go. A little bit charred nan is normal adds a crisp to it. Biryani was exceptionally good ,rice was super fragrant and spices was on point. Lamb rogan josh was not too sweet ,i ordered spicy because we asians loveeeee spicy food and it was so much better then expected !! Really a hidden gem!

i really want to give this takeaway more stars because i like their overall taste and style of butter chicken, but i really cant because i think there was some cross contamination when preparing my meal. it had this strong lamb-y taste that was really sickening for me, and i think there were some herbs or spices that ruined the taste for me. the naan was also too doughy and dry, and the edges were burnt. however, i really do like their style of butter chicken. they make the nice and rich kind with the tandoori-d chicken pieces, and i am very picky when it comes to butter chicken and only order from one place because all food court indian places make this weird and gross oily curry. i will probably give this place another try sometime as they are a bit cheaper and open earlier, but for now i can only rate 2 stars :(
