Easily the best Indian restaurant on the Hibiscus Coast. Fabulous food set in a beautifully decorated restaurant with a great ambiance with friendly, attentive staff. Would recommend to everyone.
I recently ordered from this restaurant for the first time, selecting the Chana Masala, and I have to say—it was the best masala I've ever savored! The flavors were absolutely exquisite; I nearly licked the container clean. Kudos to Taj India for truly impressing me! However, just two days later, I found myself craving that same delicious Chana Masala and decided to order it again. Unfortunately, this time I was met with disappointment. The dish tasted burnt and did not have the fresh, vibrant flavors I had enjoyed initially. It was a stark contrast to the delightful experience I had before. I’m genuinely frustrated, especially since I ended up throwing away an entire meal. You've gone from a five-star rating to a one-star experience in such a short time. I rarely post reviews, but I felt compelled to share this—please, don't let your standards slip!
This used to be the Big Tikka Indian restaurant, bought out and under new management for a while now. I’ve been coming here on and off and always found the food and service reasonable. However, our group’s experience last weekend was well below average. The service was very slow, staff giving preference to uber eats deliveries than serving loyal customers who’d taken the time to come in for a dining experience. We waited 40 minutes between our entree and main course and when served, we wound up with cold curries and after 10 minutes of not receiving our accompaniments of rice and naan bread called the manager to complain. We weren’t the only one’s who had issues, the table next to us had a similar experience, also loyal returning customers. The food was also very average. To add insult to injury, the management then tried to fob us off with a 5% discount voucher next time we came. Will not be going back.
Best Indian we've had in a long time (maybe ever). We had a wonderful meal tonight. The chilli prawn entree was exceptional! We also loved the lamb cutlets, mango chicken and lamb vindaloo! Every dish was delicious and the service was great. Very friendly and yummy, highly recommend! We will be back ☺️
My Boyfriend and I had an amazing experience in this restaurant. the couple there was very welcoming and was lovely. the food was delicious and was a great overall experience. definitely visiting again when we're back in whangaparoa.
Gorgeous atmosphere with the most authentic Indian dining experience I have had so far. You can see the chefs at work, creating magic. My new favourite Indian restaurant. Great for warming up in winter. Amazing place for a date with a significant other.
I love their food. It's definitely our go to Indian restaurant. The food is always delicious, and service is good. Awesome value for the food you get. Definitely recommend.
Decor beautiful. Staff wonderful and very attentive. Unfortunately the meal disappointed. more expensive than most other Indian restaurants. Beef rendang was a lot of sauce and very little meat. 5 small pieces, which were lovely, and rice is charged as an extra. 1st time I've encountered this at an Indian restaurant
Big Tikka is consistently high quality and in my opinion is one of the top two restaurants on the coast. It is hands down the best Indian restaurant on the coast. Our faves are the Pahadi Palak Paneer (often a Saagwala) which we sometimes get paneer and sometimes opt for chicken, the Prawn Malabari (Andaman Jingha Malabari) is soft, juicy and full of flavour and we love the Kurkure Mirchi Aloo as a side. The coconut rice always adds to the meal too. Would absolutely recommend, and will continue to support during these tough times so it can stay around. Keep it up Big Tikka team.
