Very nice bed and breakfast. The house looks wonderful. The rooms are comfortable. The breakfast is good, just missing an egg. The two hosts are kind. It is around 1.8km walking distance to city center.

Wonderful in every way. Chet was so funny, warm and welcoming. He provides excellent restaurant and sightseeing recommendations to guests. Steve was so helpful in organising our late check in via email. Lovely breakfast is served every morning in a great breakfast room where cats come to visit and easy conversations flow between Chet and the guests. Comfortable and quiet rooms, with plenty of space for luggage. Pristine bathroom and kitchen, latter equipped with coffee machine and kettle. Chet and Steve have been hosting this BnB for a long time and their skill is notable. Thank you both for a lovely stay, hope to be back one day.

We stayed two nights at Designer Cottage and then went on a cycle trip and came back two weeks later for a third night. While we were gone, the owners (Chet and Steve) kindly looked after our bike boxes and the gear we didn’t want to take with us. On our return they allowed us a late check out so we could repack our bikes and also helped with equipment to clean the bikes. The rooms at Designer Cottage are warm and comfy, in a beautiful heritage listed house. We also had a great breakfast. Chet and Steve are great hosts and Designer Cottage is one of the best places to stay in Christchurch.

We had a perfect 5 nights stay at Designer Cottage (Heritage building) in August ’24. Chet & Steve were amazing/excellent hosts and the Cottage is a home away from home. The Cottage has a very peaceful and inviting garden setting in a quiet location. No requests from us were too difficult. Daily delicious breakfasts sourced from local ingredients were one of the highlights of our stay. The cottage is walking distance to shops, restaurants and Christchurch city centre of /attractions. Wished we discovered this B&B Cottage earlier and comes highly recommended when one is in Christchurch!

Thank you Chet and Steve of being a very good and lovely hosts. Very good stay, the room is cosy, clean and comfortable. They have small little pantry in the room itself - coffee, tea, water and a kettle to boil water. Toilet amenities are also provided. And I like the surrounding garden with planted apples, pears, plums, lavenders and so many others. Walking distance to the nearby cafes and restaurants, and 15km to the Christchurch international airport. As my flight is very early, so I don’t have chance to have the breakfast, which I really love to do it in my next visit again.

We stayed in the two bed cottage. It’s delightful, clean, tidy and really cosy and warm. The beds are comfortable, the shower lovely and hot. Continental breakfast really yummy and high quality. Highly recommend. Had a great dinner, 7 min drive, at Jaba.

We stayed at the BnB for 3 nights. The location is okay, the room was very nice and the breakfast good. But I wouldn't stay again for several reasons. First, our booking got mixed up. We had paid and had a booking number, but for some reason the booking got lost. It took several messages until someone replied to our inquiry about our arrival. They still had a room, but agter all, it was stressful not to know what would happen for a while, and no-one ever apologised for the mix-up. In general, I felt a bit unwelcome. Maybe it was because of our younger age, since most other guests were retirement age (they were all very friendly, though!). My main reason not to stay there again, was this: My partner got sick while we were there. Nothing too bad (he tested negative for covid), but he had a fever and felt quite lousy. On our final day I asked if he could stay an hour longer in our room while I'd get our rental car. This was denied and we weren't offered that he might just stay on the premises/the garden either. There was no explanation, and it just felt rather heartless.

Steve and Chet were amazing and sensitive hosts. They accommodated for all the changes in my needs. I loved my stay with them through a difficult time. The room was comfortable, quiet and clean, the breakfast and company delicious, and Marmite was the icing on the cake. Will definitely be back again!

Steve was very welcoming and friendly! He showed us around and how to use the keypad locks (very cool). It's in a nice suburb and feels safe, so is great if you're travelling solo too. It's just on the edge of the city centre, so is a great location. There is a resident cat, which I love!! Our room was big and the bed comfortable, everything is tidy and clean. It's a home away from home. Fully recommend and I will stay again.

When I come to Christchurch, there is no where else I would stay. Charming historic house in enchanting garden. Wonderful to be met by your Steve/Chen when you arrive and then entertained with by them the following morning over breakfast. Infinitely nicer than a charmless motel. Walking distance to restaurants and very central to what the city has to offer. Very reasonably priced. Home away from home.
