Merchant of Matamata favours a burgerβled mix with clear, clean flavours. A sensible spend for the spread. Sweets lean classic and not overly rich. Plates offer plenty without weighing things down. Fries and sides round things out neatly.
We visited The Merchant of Matamata yesterday and were seriously impressed. Excellent customer service from the moment we walked in, outstanding espresso martinis, and a great atmosphere that makes you want to stay for another round. Itβs places like this that give a town its character β a real asset to Matamata. Highly recommended
Was really lovely yummy food plus very friendly staff . Plus had a guy singing in outdoor area really nice .
Pork hock and deserts delicious but steak meal was below par as was undeseasoned and low quality steak. Asked for fries to be swapped out for extra season veg and was surprised at very small amount received as a trade out.
Beer was great! Had the scotch steak with an egg on top. Their fries had great seasoning on them, but too much. Was too salty, and I like salt. Their dessert was apple and frejoa cheesecake. It wasn't the traditional American cheesecake, it was more airy and light, as if it was mixed with heaven. Would come here again.
A bit disappointed really, waited over 40 minutes for lunch when there were only 3 tables, steak that was ordered medium rare came burnt on the outside and medium on the inside. Ribs that were orered was massively dry. Coffee was strong and nicely made.
It was Sunday evening. Where to go for a meal while visiting the Waharoa area. We chose Merchant of Matamata. We walked in off the street and were allowed to sit where ever we wanted. We tried the Wairere Falls Lager and Chicken Burger, while our friend had the Sunday Steak and egg special with Good George Stoat.
Not a great burger. No real thought put into the flavouring and not a great amount of chips with it. Good selection of beers.
I ordered the chicken burger, ginger beer and for dessert I had the skillet cookie, the food was amazing, the chicken burger was crispy on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside, the ginger beer was refreshing and the staff was friendly and helpful. Awesome work
This restaurant was overall very disappointing. We came here sine the place looked great, had a lot of beer taps, had a great menu, but it didt't live up to our expectations. We ordered the crispy pork belly and an the hippie salad. The crispy pork belly was not crispy, and even worse, it was tasteless. The portion was so small i would have to order at least three of them to have walked without wanting to buy some fast food. Definetly not worth the 30$. The hippie salad had some of the same problem, it was super super dry and tasteless. Nothing about it made it special, and super overpriced for a salad thats so simple. The staff here where nice, but very unexperienced. Do not take the plate before everyone at the table is done eating, espacially when we are only two. It makes it really uncomfortable for the people still eating. And the worst part of this place by far. DO NOT PUT ICE CUBES IN MY BEER!!!
Quiet trade for New Years Day, with pleasant staff, great selection of tap beers, and reasonable βpub foodβ. Nice and casual vibe. Pool table available with big open layout. Next door to arcade (gaming) and VR shop, so great to entertain the kids whilst you relax with a cold beverage in the beer garden.
