The grounds were beautifully maintained, with clean facilities. The staff were welcoming and always ready to help, which made the whole experience feel easy and enjoyable. Safe, peaceful anf family friendly. It's the kind of place where you can unwind and relax. I'd happily return and recommend it to anyone for a comfortable, clean and relaxing getaway.

We enjoyed the private hot spring pool and the main pool with facilities. Debbie at reception was so lovely and had great information for us. Our experience was 10/10! Great price and lovely friendly team. The private hot spring pool was incredible!

Matamata is a small town, of Hobbiton fame. I would think most people visit here for the Hobbiton tour. Opals Hot Springs is an unconventional hotel/camp which offers a very interested and atypical lodging experience. Office is open form 9 am to 9 pm so make sure to check in during these 12 hours. It is about 6 minutes from city center and about 20 minutes from Hobbiton. Has a mix of shared hostel style dwellings, individual suites for up to 4 people with private bathrooms, and a small lodge. We stated at the private suite. From the outside, it looks like a small motel but the rooms, kitchen and bathrooms have had a modern upgrade and actually feel quite upscale on the inside. The area has a lovely flowery aroma. Parking is motel style right in front of the suite. There are three outdoor pools with free access (three different heating levels). There is also a couple of private pools that can be reserved ahead of time for an additional cost. The office has a small convenience store for basic needs and snacks but also closes at 9 pm. I also saw some campers/RVs so I guess that too is an option. We only came here to spend the night so didn’t get to experience the pool or other features but our stay was convenient and comfortable. This place is worth a consideration if staying in Matamata overnight or longer.

Stayed here for one night at one of their powered RV sites. The pools are clean and feel so nice, especially in cold weather/ rain. Showers are hot, kitchen and laundry room are great. Best Holiday Park we’ve stayed at. Very reasonable prices as well!

The only good thing about this place was the pools and rooms. The staff was absolutely terrible to us. We sent 2 of the young kids (9 and 10) to go cancel a private pool reservation we had and the guy at the front office went off at them saying how rude it is for them to cancel and refused to cancel it, when my nan went down there to confront him for yelling at the kids he wouldn’t even let her get a word in and still refused to cancel it. We also accidentally left one of our phones in the cabin after we checked out but got told to find the cleaners because they would have it so me and the 2 kids went up to grab the phone from them, we politely asked if they had the phone and they said yes and started grabbing it from the car. My nephew (9) followed her to the car to grab the phone from her and she shoved her hand straight in his face and told him to calm down and step back when he wasn’t doing anything wrong, I could tell he was about to cry but he held it in. When we got the phone back I didn’t thank her because I didn’t think she deserved it since she was rude to my nephew so I just walked away with the 2 kids and she yelled out your welcome in a sarcastic way which I was expecting and I just flicked my hand at her. Will never come here again because the staff just spoil the whole experience.

Had a private spa as the Ramaroa pool was booked. It was very relaxing. The people before us were 10 minutes into our time by the time they came out. But 45 minutes was long enough for us, we had booked an hour. Think we'd definitely get in earlier and book the Ramaroa next time

Great campsite. Love, love the hot pools, especially the private one. Great place to go. Very friendly team on-site. Small shop. TV room, laundry. Bathrooms were well kept and clean (little cold- but what do you expect from open bathrooms in Autumn)
