PLEASE NOTE..gate is locked at 7:30pm, the rough gravel road needs constant grading, ideally should be sealed. The toilet is gross, long drop compostable type..bring your toilet paper & hand cleaner/sanitizer, there’s no water no basin no flush. It is an off leash area for dogs BUT the nzmca club park does not want or approve of lose dogs especially if you are a club member staying at the willows club park..they will remove you out of the nzmca club if you’re seen & or reported for your dog not on a leash! they will not listen to reason. The public area is good for picnics, bikes, walks and the dog park is great, fully fenced. Lovely views of snowy peaks & the Waimakariri River. Enjoy your visit

We had a really pleasant walk at the Willows. Initially headed toward the riverside, but that area seemed more suited for 4WDs or motorcycles. Instead, we took McIndoe Track in the photo, which turned out to be a lovely walking track that can form a loop. It’s a shared trail with mountain bikers, but many people were out walking their dogs. The trail winds through small hills with unique formations around the trees β€” walking through them gave a surreal feeling. It was such an enjoyable walk on a sunny day. Definitely looking forward to coming back for more short hikes and eventually doing the full loop.

Kids friendly and very good place for trail running or walking.

Enjoyed a pleasant walk through stands of pine and popular at this popular walking and biking park on the banks of the Waimakariri River. The cycle tracks looked interesting with good undulations and tight corners. There is a NZMCA caravan park for motor caravan stop overs. Unfortunately the river is a heath hazard at this point so no swimming or fishing.

Great place to take a dog, go for a walk, ride some motorbikes, or have a picnic. One of my favorite places to go.

Great spot. Note the access road is gravel so yes your car will get dirty. Sad to see some people had left litter including a nappy beside the river. I found the river warm in this location. Camping ground limited to members only.

A nice vantage point to watch the Waimakariri river flows past the Canterbury plain. A stunning place to go for a relaxing walk and view the sunset. The last kilometre of road leading to the car park is just non-asphalt surfaced. You must drive slowly with care to avoid rock chipping onto your windscreen.

Great place for a picnic, or take your family for a bike ride on the well made track (4.5 km loop) with gentle twist and turn, and up and down. I think it suits a three year old as well as older kids. Or you can take your trail bike for a spin on the outer track along the Waimak.
