Great running/walking track which connects Lake Rua through to the Groynes. Reasonably well maintained and a couple of off shoots.
This is a peaceful walking area surrounded by towering eucalyptus trees on the west and a clear stream and lake on the east side, perfect for gentle and enjoyable walks through native New Zealand bush. There are also great spots for birdwatching.
Awesome track to walk through wetlands. Has a lot bird life in and around the pounds.
Nice and quiet I just went for a drive some where different in Christchurch went for a walk had a look round :-) I took a few photos of walking track from the carpark and a native walk which was fenced off but allowed public access as long as dogs were on a lead to not disturb the nestlings.
A real hidden gem in the city ! Beautiful nature reserve with stunning walking trails and amazing views around the lake and Styx river. Nice variety of flora and fauna, perfect for bird watching or just casual walk to enjoy wildlife, birds, butterflies in beautiful surroundings. The best thing is that itβs relatively quiet and. It crowded, so one can enjoy a walk in nature with many people and get some peace of mind. There are many quiet spots and benches to rest and enjoy the view. Dogs are only allowed in designated area which is how all the reserves should be and bikes are not permitted. On the entrance there is a small car park for max. 10 cars.
Storm loves this dog park so much. Have heard of a few cars broken into recently, so don't leave valuables in sight. There is a hose to rinse off the mud and lots of friendly dogs and lovely humans.
This beautiful Reserve, has it all! Enjoy the stream and lake, bird watching or a picnic. Great for families, and there is even a dog park from the Hussey road entrance. There are enough trails to make a great run loop to!
A peaceful walk in nature near the water on the edge of Christchurch City. There are a couple of car parks off Styx Mill Road which had space when I visited on a weekday afternoon. The paths are raised, flat mainly with small gravel but which are accessible. Not many muddy patches in autumn. There are picnic tables and benches along the paths and toilets nearby in the dog park. There are signposts which tell you which trail you are on but the signage could be improved with maps at junctions, lose one star for this. Contemplation point sounds interesting but we didn't take that path. Good place to watch native birds, there were plenty of fantails and pukekos. A pleasant place to come for a walk near nature.
Great parkland area to take the dogs for a walk. We walked the trails through the park enjoying the riverside views and the birdlife that was at home on the ponds. Nice easy walk for about and hour. A part of the trail is a loop but we went to the end of the other trail too then returned back the same way. We also let the dogs have a run off leash in the very good dog park. They had a good play with other dogs and we met some nice fellow dog owners.
