If you’re looking for something truly delicious in Christchurch, Afghan Restaurant on Lincoln Road is a must-visit. The food is bold and generous - think flame-grilled lamb & chicken kebabs, savoury rice, chicken curry and fresh salad.

The experience lives up to the hype. Delicious simple tasty food. No over the top presentations! Huge portion! Freshly cooked in front of you On the spot! Super friendly crew Abdul is an icon of CHC The food was delicious all around. A master of his craft. It works and don’t change it if it isn’t broke. Proper hole in wall situation here. The cheapest most tastiest filling meal probably anywhere in Oceania and a little beyond. An awesome experience. Stand in line tell them how many servings you want and get your food. Either cash or card. No PayPass.
We visited here due to a video I saw on the internet and the big hype. There was a massive queue outside (we waited an hour) but we were told afterwards that if you are dining in you could just go straight in and they would serve you straight away so no need to wait!! It is a set meal and you just tell them how many people are eating- it is really generous portions and $21 each person so I think it’s a great price The chicken kebab and lamb kebab were really nice, the rice was good too. Team is really nice too The decor is like going back in time and feels like you are at a family members house which is really comforting I wouldn’t say the food is as incredible as the hype but I would say it is still nice and I recommend that people try there and support this great man who runs this business If you want to go, you do need to go onto the Facebook page ‘is AFG open today’ and you can see there if it’s open
My son and his family lives in Christchurch and he's been talking about this Afgan place and would take us there if we're in Christchurch. A must-try spot in Christchurch! There’s no menu—just walk in and let them know how many people are dining or ordering takeaway. They usually open around 5:30 p.m., and there’s always a long line, so give yourself extra time. The food is simple but absolutely delicious—choose chicken, lamb, or a mix, served with tasty rice and curry. It’s great value for money and always consistent. We ordered 3 servings for 5 people, and it was more than enough. Don’t expect a typical restaurant setup. You get your own drinks, plates, and cutlery. If you're dining in, you can skip the takeaway queue—just find a seat and order at the counter. We always get an extra serving to enjoy for lunch the next day. Tip: Join their Facebook group to check if they’re open. Long wait, but totally worth it!
Excellent experience with this afghan good. I guess is high ratings is indeed not an over rating. The rice is really nice and chicken curry is fantastic. A big serving and highly recommended
Best in town, best in price and best in taste. I would love to come here every day. My children love it. You will be amazed by seeing every nationality here. Pakistan , Indian, Filipino, kiwi etc….
They only serve one meal set with generous amount of food, normally 2-persons feed 3, and 3 feed 4. The meal comes with 3 dishes, salad, lamb and chicken kebab with rice, and chicken thigh curry. Don’t overestimate your good appetite, you just won’t handle the amount.
The food here is really mindblowingly good. The lamb and chicken kebab is so tender and flavourful and the curry is packed with a punch. The only caveat is the long wait, we waited for 1.5 hours for our food and the dine in customers got their food before us. I would suggest that you try to find a dine in seat the moment you reach the restaurant to avoid the long wait at the takeout line. Despite the long wait, I believe you should definitely give this place a go at least one in Christchurch. The food is too good, it’s worth the wait.
This is a must visit place if you are in Christchurch. Spare enough time as the queue is quite long, and they open around 5.30 p.m. There is no doubt about the taste with an affordable price of $20. As far as I know, they do not have menu, but any order will come with rice, salad, curry, and afghan style kebab. A small number of tables are provided in the restaurant but most of the time they are occupied by eat-in customers. Takeaways will not change the taste, tho :). A $20 portion can easily feed two adults, so why not give it a try. I bought 4 portions, and 4 adults + 6 kids were unable to finish the food. I will definitely come back.
