I'm 51 and had a serious car accident. Once finished at hospital I came to Remuera rest home. The staff are absolutely lovely and truly care for all your needs. Thank you to them all

My older brother was in need of a place that accepts younger people, he was 58 at the time, we were lucky enough to find Remuera Home and Hospital were he was welcomed with open arms. He loves it there from all the activities to the staff who always encourage him in keeping as much independence as possible despite his physical needs. The staff always keep me well informed of anything related to his day to day needs, monthly doctors review, and any changes in his needs. My brother is very happy with his new home as I am.

Well after 7 years of having a loved one at the rest home, I can now speak freely without the fear of having my loved one kicked out. My loved one passed away this week and it was the most stressful experience I have felt. I was left so destressed on what I had seen and learned. The first few years of the rest home was very much as it said, but over the last year management had changed and the owner is only focus on profits and not committed to the care and running of a rest home. Please check before you leave your loved one at the rest home to ensure these things have been improved, under new management, here are the things that I have reported and ask you to look out for when you review the rest home or come to visit. + Inconsistent medication administration + open sores, bed sores around private areas + Neglect of personal hygiene and grooming (over night in the same pads for up to 10 hours per night or residents can stay in there rooms or chairs for up to 4 hours in the same pads without being changed) + Staff improbable feeding residents + High turnover of residents, and a large amount of deaths in the last year. + New residents are not suitable for the home, but they will fill any bed without care for the other residents, some have drink problems, or monthly not well, the rest home used to be for older residents only, this serve as changed over the last year. + Kitchen staff are not qualified and have a great menu on the wall, this is not followed on a daily and week bases the food standards are the worst you can serve, most people you will find eat toast at night times due to the standards of food. + Roster can have no female staff on at night, so if you have a loved one that one required female staff they will not be able to get help from 11pm until 7am in the morning. + Paper towels are used to clean and wash your loved one when they go to the toilet + some shifts don't have a New Zealand qualified nurse on and can have up to 3 hours without a nurse on a shift. + Staff are not given enough training and every shift is short staffed. + Rest home can smell really bad as the rooms are not air out and some beds don't get change for hours. + If you move into a room, it will be freshly painted, but you will find within a few weeks the mold builds up and can be bad in many of the rooms, not all heaters work. + charges for the rooms will apply we all had been forced to pay this after signing agreements that said everything was included, you will find if you ask for an invoice you will not get this and if you do it says no gst. Which is cash to the business, some residents are being charged large amounts. I was charged $6 per day. + don't have the skills for end of life care, if you are looking for a rest home that can give you the care, this is not the rest home. + Ensure if you are checking in for hospital care that the room and staff are suitable for the kind of care required. + check your comfortable with your loved ones on camera each day, as there is camera's in the main areas of the rest home. + I would never use the doctor that they bring in weekly ask if you are able to bring your own doctor. I want to finish by saying please do your homework when finding a place for your loved one, get other advice and support while they are in care, I learn all of this a bit late and what our rights was. I'm blessed my loved one is at peace now and there is no more of this to deal with, I feel sad for the other residents left and I wish I could have done more before leaving if all I can do is give you my view of the rest home and feedback on the rest home.

Horrifying personal experience in this home where I was bullied by one staff member. Meals were basically from tins and vegetables served up were grey in colour. Answer time to a bell ring was frequently over .5 hours due to lack of staff. I was supposed to have additional staff to assist me which often did not happen. 9 days of HELL which frightened me and my flatmate regarding needing care in the future. RUN AWAY quickly!!! Dear owner, My name is above and my details should be on file. Please feel free to contact me. Oh and I did speak with management about the bell ring wait times. I was told "should only take 3 minutes, 6 in some cases. " I was then told they would talk to staff. Wait times worsened. 2 months later and never heard from anyone about the experience. Shows how much they do not care.

Thank you so much for all the care and genuine love you demonstrated to our mum, Evelyn, during the three years she lived with you. She had a full life and served others most of the 100 years she was with us. Your wonderful staff and management team have been exemplary and i can't recommend you enough. All the very best for the future.
