   1/1/26 - As an Asian Brit coming to NZ I've struggled to find a good curry, then I tried Southern Spice and I must say it is probably some of the best Indian food I have had in NZ. Portions are very generous and flavour of the food is absolutely spot on. Highly recommend for anyone that wants a good feed and an authentic curry. The Tawala gosht (ordered Hot spice level) is a highlight for me and suggest anyone that likes a good lamb dish to give it a go.

   We had just decided to try here as it was local and recommended by a friend and the value for money is extremely reasonable. The food was authentic and delicious while the staff were friendly and helpful. I will definitely be coming back.

   Increased the prices which is fine. Downsides: 1. Overcharged above the bill and the guy lied about pricing 2. I asked for butter naan, exact words by the server, "Naan is ready, I'll apply butter on this" So Naan are already precooked and kept in hot case, he took one out from hotcase at side of counter and applied butter, Just cold butter on cold Naan, pic attached Do u guys think I can not apply cold butter worth 10 cents myself ? What is the fun of paying for butter Naan if this is what I get?

   I ordered for 15 people, had 2 entree and 2 mains. Everyone loved the food and we could not finish it all. lots of left overs and everyone took a box home since food was so good. I would highly recommend Chilli mushrooms for entree and Andhra chicken for mains.

   Lamb biryani was below average with smell in the meat. Chicken biryani was little better but was over all disappointed in the whole experience. The person at reception also just kept talking on the phone rather than listening to us.

   Extremely unprofessional service. Has hidden cost, like never upfront with cost, when you want to order something he is always at the back of the shop. Order takes ages to come through, as he is busy talking to everyone, coming inside the shop. Once he remembers then he trys to complete your order. Lastly spends more tume on his own, customer from India n doesn't care about other customers.

   Service was good. Food came out quite fast as well. Price is reasonable. Curry was probably a bit too oily, and too salty for my taste tho. Not sure if its meant to be that way. Biryani isn't exactly fitting our palates either. Just a different style. Else, worth a try.
