I have tried every fish and chip place on the peninsula and I yet keep coming back to John Chans , the chips are golden and tasty , the hot dog on a stick are good too!

I've been coming to John Chan since I was a kid, and it still stands as my favourite Chinese takeaway. No one does it like John Chan! The food is high quality, and has remained consistent throughout the 20 years I've been coming here. My favourite dish is the Shanghai fried noodles. Other dishes I recommend are the chow mein, fried rice, fried soft noodles, egg fu yoong, sweet and sour pork, and of course, their fish and chips. You won't be let down by John Chan! Much love to the amazing owners for all the work and love they put into their food. Really amazing people
Got fish and chips and was hands down the worst fish and chips I had ever eaten. Or not eaten. Soggy, oily chips and the fish was rank. The batter was crispy but the fish inside absolutely smelt so terrible. I had to open the window in my car when driving with the food. The fish was not off but it felt like it was dug from the bottom of the freezer after being frozen for 3 years. Never again! But the couple serving us were really nice
First time here today 10/10. Great fish & chips. Curry roll was awesome too - real chicken and veggies in there
Always busy, always top quality food. Never had any issues here and the people are so so nice.
We ordered sweet & sour pork, bbq pork with cashews & veges and egg fried rice. Spot on. Will def being going back.
Always consistent nice and fresh Chinese food. Could maybe have a bit more meat in the meat dishes though. Staff friendly. Phone order as they get busy. Only open from 4pm
Having sampled all the sea dogs on the Te Atatū peninsula we can say with veracity that John Chan’s is truly the best. Toasty bun with grilled cheese, robust batter on the surimi stick, onion, and of course a lavish amount of sauce. Truly the crème de la crème de le chien, the top of the dogs for us.
