Beautiful family friendly type setting where dogs are also welcome, tables could do with being moved apart as you have someone's dog or child under your feet. Nice food (if the potatoes were cooked a bit longer would have been banging). Staff are excellent, quick, friendly and welcoming. Can be quite busy though.

November 2025 My experience at this cafe was interesting, but it was mostly disappointing. The only highlight was sitting on the covered balcony on a sunny day and enjoying the garden views. The service was disorganized, with staff seeming lost and unsure of what they were doing. My drink was made incorrectly three times, and even when it finally looked right, it didn't taste good. The scrambled eggs were dry and didn't pair well with the heavy, slightly sweetened gluten-free bread. When I asked for butter to make them easier to eat, I was told the cafe doesn't serve it. I had to walk around to find staff when I needed assistance, and when it came time to pay the bill, I had to queue with people ordering food, which meant a long wait. I was charged for all the remade drinks and had to explain the situation to the lady at the cashier so she would remove them from my bill. All the desserts on display looked overpriced and overly sweet, with slices and croissants loaded with sugar. In my opinion, this cafe succeeds mainly because of its location in a beautiful old house on the hill, next door to the Art House Trust. Otherwise, it's not worth the visit.

Loved the open air porch, excellent upbeat atmosphere on a Saturday morning. The buscoff cinnamon roll is mental, can't forget the taste, it's baked professionally, crispy dipped in seductive liquid. The egg Benedict with bacon was on a specific type of bread which I couldn't tell me, just the taste was very good. If taking the red benches on the green, better make sure of the shade, sun is aggressive. Otherwise, give them a call the day before to enjoy porch seats. There are some local products sold on the ground which adds to the beauty of the experience. We paid 52 NZD for biscoff cinnamon roll, egg Benedict dish and a large cappuccino and medium latte. Pictures I believe do Justice. I recommend it to be tried once. Plenty if parking area for everyone. No worries. Forgot to take pics of the space, the outside area is beautiful.

What a wonderful place! Their restaurant food is amazing, with great portion sizes! Out of all 4 pictured meals, I canβt say I have a favourite because they were all great. They also have a great selection of cabinet food. The restaurant and cabinet food is naturally a little bit pricey but I am definitely not complaining! The only thing for me was that the iced matcha was very watered down with milk, and therefore was very milky which wasnβt the best. Also all the menus online need updating! Theyβre really busy most of the time (we were booked in at 11am) and the wait time for our meals and drink took about an hour, but they have a sign outside warning you about the wait time during peak hours. Their service is also really good, most especially from Mike who is just lovely and extremely friendly, and Julian who is nice also very friendly. Do I even have to talk about the atmosphere? I would especially recommend booking a table outside for a nice view out back. The cafe is situated right in the park in a beautiful Homestead and has a lovely little art gallery and shop. I would 100% recommend coming here!

This has got to be the best cafe in South Auckland. The staff are super friendly, courteous, and polite, and the coffee is undoubtedly the best around. Cannot recommend highly enough AAA+++

Are you bored of the same boring cabinet food everywhere? Usually tastes stale and won't surprise? Dry brioches? Well, not the case in Hill House cafe. Every piece in their cabinet is different and you can feel the love! I didnt know what to pick, I wanted it all. Had to try the famous cinnamon roll and it was the best. Super soft and moist (hate me word the word), perfect level of sweet! The staff was amazing and welcoming. Coffee is really well made and the whole place has just so much character. Love it here! This isnt just your "another kiwi cafe"

Great food, well presented and portioned, menu is so good, hard to choose what to eat! Had the DIY brekkie & cinnamon bun frenchie, all meals were delicious. Have had their cinnamon buns + almond croissants a few times now and they are the best Iβve come across. A HUGE thank you to Mike & his team who made our second visit one to remember and for making my sons birthday breakfast special. Appreciate it, will definitely be back to try more items on the menu. :-)

From first contact, to arriving, having our meal, and leaving - I was impressed by the friendly and excellent service of the staff at Hill House. There is a lovely ambience about this cafe with its delightful decor and intimate seating indoors, as well as tables out on the verandah. The food was well presented and delicious, generously portioned and a fair price. I will be back. Highly recommend.
