It seems to be common practice but food outlets are making it a practice to rip people off any chance they get. Mexicali in Botany Junction is no exception. I ask for a mini burrito. I said mini three times to make sure the service lady understood. She made a mini. 1) Prior to checkout of course they ask what toppings you want never informing you they cost extra. This is a common scam especially in places where they create food in front of you. So I asked each time if the topping cost extra and said no to it when she said yes. 2) Checkout - the cost was suppose to be $13.90 for a mini. Sure enough she automatically rang up a price of $16.90 ( being the next size up). I said I ordered a mini which is what she made. She begrudgingly changed the price to the correct amount. These people are scammers. Beware. The burrito itself was bland and semi warm. The place was empty. I know why. I wont be going back and nor should you. As consumers we shouldn't stand for this blatant rip off practice. Always check you bill when eating out before paying no matter the restaurant. Mistakes, both intentional and accidental, are common place.

Nachos were delicious - fresh salad & guac, meat was hot & seasoned well. Celcius beverage was chilled & very nice. The downside was there was no airflow in the restaurant, no aircon or even a fan, this made our dining experience very uncomfortable especially as it was during Summer. Staff were not very accomodating & were quite unpleasant & abrupt- rushing us as we were trying to check out the menu.

I've never left a review here before because the food is always middle of the road. Not complaint worthy but also definitely not super praise worthy. Tonight I got nachos and the amount of orange grease at the bottom of the box was disgusting. The food was sitting in a pool of it and the chips then were soaked through with it. So I ate the top and the rest had to get binned. It made the whole dish taste greasy and horrible. I get the same thing everytime I come here and have never experienced that before. Super disappointed after spending $23 and having no dinner. The picture doesn't even do it justice as to how much was there.

Great Mexican food, clean and tidy, and great service. A welcoming place to stop for some Mexican food and a beer.

The food was good. I donβt know a great deal about Mexican. I was hoping it would be spicier. Place was empty for 12.30 on a Saturday. Few more people came in after we ordered. Having never been here and expecting to know what to order was a bit annoying. They didnβt communicate very well. All in all it was a good experience.

Excited to eat the food however upon ordering we noticed flies hovering over all the food, sitting on the vegetables and even waved some off while the worker was taking our order. Food was great however both my friend and I had sore stomachs same night and the following days only to find out we had food poisoning. Unfortunately wouldn't visit again.

We are huge taco/mexican foodies. Today we chose the Bandito $19 (ish) and a chicken (hard/corn)Taco (1 spicy, 1 Mild) $7 each. The Badito had a generous portion of beef barbaco with an extra side of about 12 corn chips on the side. With the fresh salad, yum. And the 2 warm hard shell chicken tacos, yum. The spicy one is very spicy if you're not really a 'heat' person. If you are, it's like a mild spicy. That came with an extra side about 5 corn chips. Service was good. Good value for money. Cute little Mexican vibe restaurant. Overall was a good experience, would recommend to others.

I've ordered the nachos supreme, and I've never seen a "mexican" food so tasteless even though there were many ingredients and sauces. the chips had basically no salt and too small portion for the big price ($9). I'm definitely not ordering again.

Mexicali Fresh is probably one of the best chains for Mexican food in New Zealand. I'm consistently impressed with the quality of the food and the prices are pretty decent. The ambience of this particular restaurant is really nice. The portions are quite large as well - I had a mini Macho Burrito and that was probably more food than I needed. The regular size must be massive.
