First time here. Had a salad which was described as chilli prawns. Turns up covered in sweet chilli sauce which I really dislike! They did change it but it was a bland salad with prawns on top - looked like salad leaves out of a packet, topped with a few pieces of red onions, three cubes of pineapple and a little bit of green Alfalfa. Got to the till and they charged me $30! A different price to the menu. Checked and the menus varied in their pricing. Pointed this out to them and the manager piped up no one else complained, referencing back to the prawns. I spent three years at catering college in Europe and then ran a restaurant for a few years; it was pretty disappointing to hear her say this. If I'd ever been heard saying that to a customer I'd have been out of a job! Shame as the other staff were really friendly and very efficient. Won't visit again.

Excellent tucked away place... far from the maddening crowd...a jewel of a restaurant. Cozy set up. Nostalgic feel to it. Extensive menu. Sunday roast is available. Food portion size is decent, service was good... albeit a little slow. Parking can be a slight problem.. only off street parking available. Recommended. Good selection of drinks, beers and wines.

Had the big brekkie and it was mean as. Everything was cooked spot on and the portion was solid. Good flavours, good vibes, and decent value for money. Sweet spot for a weekend feed, I’ll be back for sure.

Great little bistro in Thorndon. Love the atmosphere, giving old school British style pub vibes, and the traditional cuisine. I got the seafood chowder, which was delicious and filling. Could have been a bit creamier / smoother. The burgers and sandwich of the day looked perfect. Highly rate this place.

delicious food, great service, highly recommend. Heaps of space and quiet on a Saturday. Really great value for money if you book on first table.

Please ensure your early bird special offers have an end time on the blackboard outside. Went in this morning at 10/1015 and paid full price. Surely an early bird offer starting at 730 should run for 3 hours!! Bit unhappy.

I think we were in part unlucky, but our group had reserved a table on what turned out to be a busy day here and they were unable to cope. Our food arrived almost an hour after we ordered and the coffees never until we asked. During this entire period we saw no staff, nobody came to explain the delay, no apologies. Nothing. One plate arrived after 30’minutes but was immediately removed as it was for an different table. The food was okay, but clearly rushed aside from the crumpets which were inedible. They seemed to have been microwaved after being baked, making them really unpleasant. We were never asked how everything was, so we just paid and left. As most of us work nearby this experience was really, really disappointing and frustrating.

Really cool old style house which has been turned into a bar and cafe/restaurant. Lovely modern wood paneled outdoor area with heaters. Bar staff seemed quite friendly. I think they ran out of shiraz very quickly or didn't have enough bottles. The snack food selection and quality was a bit average. Good place for after work drinks.

Management very kind to find us a table since we hadn't booked. Food arrived promptly, and was very good. Loved the Emerson's hazy and confused. Noise levels from other patrons quite low due to there being several small rooms. Conversation was possible! Loved the wooden tables, chairs and rustic doors.

This recently renovated and opened pub in the center of the city adds a really good alternative to some of the waterfront and downtown venues. There are a number of levels, and the ability to have a semi-private group booking, or just strolling and set yourself down. My advice would be to go for the spicy meatballs!
