I had a really good stay at Attic Backpackers. The kitchen is big, clean, and well organised, which makes cooking easy even when there are several people around. The rooms are spacious, with comfortable beds and pillows, something you do not always find in hostels and definitely appreciated after a long day out. The common areas are great. There are large indoor lounges and an outdoor space as well, with plenty of comfy sofas and lots of board games. It is easy to relax, hang out, or meet people without feeling crowded. Bathrooms were always clean and spacious during my stay. Towels are not included and have an extra cost, but you can just bring your own if you prefer. They also provide good information about tours and local activities, which is helpful if you are still planning what to do around Queenstown. I arrived after hours and the check in was very straightforward. They send you a clear email with all the instructions, so there is no stress at all if you get in late. Overall, it is a solid, comfortable hostel with good vibes, clean spaces, and everything you actually need for a good stay.

Best place to stay in Auckland as a traveller! Super clean, great facilities & rooms, staff gave us tons of recommendations for what to do in Auckland, and was nice n social out on the patio area. This is the spot to be.

The Attic in Auckland was exactly the kind of chill spot you hope for. The kitchen was spacious enough to cook without feeling like you’re playing human Tetris, and the lounge and TV room were ridiculously comfy, basically designed for maximum couch-potato efficiency. The rooms were clean, cozy, and perfect for a solid night’s sleep. Staff were laid-back, friendly, and on top of everything without making a fuss, the rare combo of “relaxed but reliable.”What really stood out was the little touches and attention to detail: guides, lists, and tips for the best spots in Auckland everywhere you looked. You could feel they genuinely cared about making your stay smooth and fun. Not flashy or over-the-top, but sometimes that’s exactly what you want: a comfy place with smart touches, thoughtful vibes, and zero stress. The Attic nails it: a cozy, well-run hideout in the city, and honestly, kind of hard to leave.

You can't beat the location, but I will be honest that I am glad this was only a one night stint for me. The place felt like a prison, so the rooms can feel stuffy at times. You don't have a locker (there is a separate area with small lockers you can store your valuables, so good luck securing your laptop). All in all, in comparison to other places I've stayed at, this place is less homely. I will say I am impressed with how they converted the 4th floor into a hostel, though.

Really enjoyed my stay here! The hostel was clean, comfortable, and well looked after. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, always ready to help out with anything. The location was perfect, and it had a great atmosphere where I met some really nice people. I would definitely come back and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great place to stay.

Good location and really really friendly and helpful staff. The staff are, largely, what make this place. Kitchen is decent - appreciate the communal spice shelf! Only downsides are the building and rooms are very cold, and there were a few odd characters staying and hanging around in the hostel that made me feel a bit uncomfortable. Other than these few point. Decent hostel

My daughter needed to stay here for a night. Very nice people who helped us out. Great location in the heart of Auckland.

Pros It's a social hostel in a good location. Cons I didn't find the hostel particularly clean, and the staff were unhelpful/quite rude when I asked to leave bags and use the washroom slightly before check-in time.

We’ve stayed at numerous hostels in Auckland, but this is by far the worst. The location was decent but some major drawbacks meant we had a poor stay here: -The hostel overall is shabby and dirty. There was mould on the seating outside, duct tape held the roof together and the floors were disgusting. -Rules and guidelines are worded patronisingly, with passive-aggressive instructions on keeping tidy and being patient for the shower to get hot... but maybe that’s because many guests here can’t seem to wash up any dishes and fill the bins to the brim with alcohol bottles. Expect a throwback to all the worst parts of student accommodation. -Cleaning seem to happen whenever the staff feel like it- the kitchen randomly closed at 10am on our first day while we were making breakfast and we were chased out by an aggressive member of staff. Kitchen closing times are normal in hostels of course, but this was not mentioned anywhere in the hostel and had no consistency. Staff came into the clean the room before the 10am checkout time. -The room was too hot and poorly ventilated, making it difficult to sleep. -The hostel overall was over-crammed, with too many people stuffed into a small space. It felt claustrophobic. -We were not allowed to use any facilities after checkout, despite this been absolutely fine in all the other hostels we’ve stayed in. -The outside decking area could be a nice place to sit if they didn’t permit smoking there. If you’d like to keep your lungs it becomes an unpleasant place to sit and eat. Those who want to smoke should have to go downstairs onto the street. -Rooms were extremely basic compared to most other hostels available. No individual lights or plug sockets for the beds, doors don’t lock automatically, no storage lockers in the rooms. The above issues made this over-priced for what it was and a poor value for money compared to other hostels in the city.

I've stayed in many hostel/backpackers and this one is by far the best. Clean, plenty space, plenty facilities and all round very convenient. The staff were very friendly and I always saw them cleaning or helping someone out. Kitchen space was huge with plenty cutlery and pottery, hot water and even free food. The environment was a bonus, everyone was so kind and as a solo female traveler I felt very safe here. Location is a bonus, close to the city so a 5 min walk or short bus trip would take you right there. I would definitely recommend this spot to anyone...Thoroughly enjoyed myself here and my favorite spot was the roof top area and guest lounge.
