A great location and ok staff is just about the only thing that's fine with this "hostel". A private room is more like a coffin with dirty bed sheets and a fan that's the only thing preventing you from suffocating during the night. Wasn't expecting a great experience but it was just so dirty, even had to change a room because the first one was not even cleaned, in the second room it was obvious the sheets were not cleaned. To be honest didn't even want to unpack because the floor felt sticky. I think management doesn't realise that duvets, matresses and other things require replacement after being used for years. The state of the pillows and everything was horrendous.

we stayed one week, during so we had a hard time having good sleep because of so much constructions around. The people working here were really kind people and easy to live around here. The disappointing experience is to find bedbugs, have a lot of bites and no real measures to try to make it better except a spray bottle if you ask so. It was complicated to have 4$ to dry our things before getting out. Lot of weird odors, cheap but don't have high expectations.

The private rooms are very bad. It looks like you’re sleeping in a car park. Lots of noise coming from the vent tubes above. The kitchen in the basement also not the greatest and bathrooms are in a terrible condition. If you want toilet paper you have to check every toilet on every floor in the building to find one that has a roll.

*I only stayed 1 night!* For me, doesn't deserve the low reviews. Yes it's a little dirty but nothing crazy. For a cheap hostel, it's good. No, I didn't see any bedbugs in my bed and the sheets looked clean. Overall it's totally fine, like obviously not a nice hotel but who cares. Front desk staff were very friendly as well and tried to give me the lowest price possible. It is pretty loud though but that's because everyone is just having a good time and generally just being happy.

Some staff consume alcohol in the reception. Poor example to both other staff and backpackers (1/5 for service). The room I have stayed is petite and has no ventilation (1/5 for rooms). I always have to climb a hill via Bowen avenue if i am to catch a bus at Symonds Street (1/5 for location).

It's the cheapest accommodation in the city so you get what you pay for. Cockroaches in the kitchen. Not enough staff on cleaning shifts so the bins overflow every night. There's no plug sockets in the dorm. Leaking toilets. One tablespoon between about 30 people. Toilets on a different floor to your room. You stay here because you need to, not because you want to. Β£9 a night tho, so you can't complain too much.

Sorry to post a bad review but what I booked and paid for and what I turned up to was very different, this was end of July 23. I decided to give this hostel a chance when travelling to Auckland for work. The pictures looked nice, basic clean room with good amenities. I turned up after being hassled out the front. Went into reception and was not in a good mindset (travelling female alone) of being told about safety precautions, don't go out if you can kind of words. The room was a box, dirty and no window. I felt exposed and unsafe. I had to leave. No refund, not even an acknowledgement standing at the counter until staff wanted to talk to me. Sorry but this hostel can do better and treat people better. I'm not a backpacker but I feel even backpackers paying those prices deserve respect and more sense of safety and hygiene. It's a "don't go there" vote from me.

Much better experience than I expected based on old reviews; A lot must have changed since then. The rooms were basic but totally fine, the staff were very friendly and helpful, and the kitchen is pretty good as well. Cleanliness could still be improved a bit, but I felt totally comfortable with the level it's at right now. Absolutely the best you can expect at this price level!

Big rooms with enough space for your luggage, big windows with ventilation and rooms smell good. Very central of Auckland that always help and really near to train station. Toilets where clean and in the kitchen good environment of people. Staff really nice too. Good price, highly recommend it. I would come back.
