Stunning scenery, it only takes 45 minutes to walk the loop. We arrived to the car park at 8.30am and managed to get a spot. To reach the car park you have to drive almost 1km on an unsealed road.
Absolutely stunning walk! Mercer Bay Loop is one of those places that makes you stop every few minutes just to take in the view. The track is short and fairly easy, but the scenery feels world-class — dramatic cliffs, endless ocean, and that wild West Coast energy you can’t find anywhere else. The path is well-maintained, with plenty of lookout points perfect for photos or just catching your breath. Even on a windy day, it feels refreshing rather than uncomfortable. Parking can be limited, especially on weekends, so going early is a good idea. If you’re in Auckland and want a quick walk with maximum “wow” factor, this loop is unbeatable. Highly recommend!
Nice easy walk complete in 45min - 1hour max with 7yr old kid. Good views all the way. Easier for entry via left side then you don’t have to climb that much. Good stop over and chill out space in the middle for a quick snack and rest.
I really enjoyed this loop walk! Despite the rainy forecast, the weather turned out to be fantastic, which made the experience even better. The track is well-maintained and easy to follow, with a moderate incline and decline that gives you a solid workout without being too challenging. It’s a great option if you’re looking for a shorter trail that still gets your heart rate up and works up a quick sweat. Along the way, there are plenty of gorgeous views to stop and appreciate, making the walk both refreshing and rewarding. I’d definitely recommend it for a casual yet scenic outing.
Visited this morning and spent 2-3 hours doing the loop (probably only takes 30 mins) but was took my time taking pictures and picking my jaw off the floor from the views. The loop does loop around to and from the car park. I saw a review suggesting women don’t go alone but I did and felt safe on the trail. The views are incredible and the loop itself isn’t hard, just some incline and decline. Had service the whole loop, it was clean and beautiful! Absolutely recommend.

One of the best place to enjoy nature, fresh air, water and beach. Very peaceful, calm, beautiful and relaxing. But the only thing is you should be ready for hiking since there are lots of steep steps and slopes both the way in and put. Almost 35-40min walk from parking to the beach. But its worth the time and energy spend. Lots of parking available. Washroom facilities available.
The views can be gorgeous or brutal, depending on the weather, but never fail to impress.

Beautiful views, nice easy walk. It took 2.5 - 3 hours for us to complete all tracks - Mercer Bay Loop Walk & Comans Track & Ahu Ahu track. We stopped many times during our walk to take great photos. There is a small part required climbing to get down. On site parking.
