Do the walk on a fine Wellington Spring morning. Partly cloudy but warm, not too windy. Walk was good, but tough. We went the high route and decided to not do the loop or an out and back route, because it was steep and our knees likely couldn’t handle the trek downhill. We made a nice loop of it by heading to the wind farm car park and then the roads back to the start. All up just a shade over 7.5km and a good walk

Despite some paths are closed due to lambing season, it's still enjoyable and have a tons of beautiful view 360 degree! starts at 10am and ended also on Makara Beach, stops for a minute at Gun Emplacements, continue to closed gate of Windmill path. total 2 hours of walking and some light trekking. Got some steep ways but it really paid offs. Prepare some snacks and full bottle water because you'll need it. But if you come at noon, the cafe are already open to filling up your empty stomach.

Very beautiful walkway, for adults you can challenge yourselves for the complete route, to the mountain and come back along the coastline, but be prepared for the rocky and sandy pathway, or “no pathway” at all at the big turning corner whereby you need to find the way through the rocks, watch out for the tide, you may dip your shoes into the water, find a wooden stick will help you tremendously. The full route will take 3-4hours. For kids and women, going up the mountain and coming back the same way is a more manageable route plan, as they don’t have to fight with the coastline pathway which makes the route substantially longer and tougher. Make sure you walk to the wind turbine, it’s beautiful and it makes you feel small. No dog is allowed to the mountain as there are private farms there. Bring along water and food, you will need the energy.

A beautiful moderately difficult work mainly at the beginning which is very steep. The rest is rather easy however at high tide the walk back across the beach is incredibly rocky be prepared for some jumping and small climbs. Good footwear is a must along with a decent level of fitness.

Fantastic walk up to the old gun positions for lunch. The walk back around the beach takes a bit longer but is worth it. Rocky bottom beaches but the water is very refreshing after the climb. Those of moderate fitness can complete this walk but should take their time as the initial climb is quite steep. Ring ots on water and on sunny days a hat and sunscreen! There is no shade to be found. Highly recommend for a fun day out.

The climb to the top was very steep and pretty windy so it was quite daunting but views were worth it. Loved that I could enjoy the green fields of the mountains and the waves of the coastline too. My favourite walk so far close to Wellington in terms of views but I found the climb (although short) quite challenging even with average fitness level, so something to consider esp for those with weak knees!

Nice tough walk along some very scenic terrain. A few different tracks to choose from. The one along the beach is not established for very long and there is a small amount of rock hopping involved at high tide. The inland tracks are very steep in parts. The gun emplacements cordoned off but can be looked at.

Less than 3h round trip to the gun encampments/summit and back. The hike is quite hilly, so it alternates between steep bits and flatter lookout point. Overall, a great effort to reward ratio!

Stunning. Doc website says the track is a 6.6km loop. The signage on site says 8kms which is more accurate. We did 9.5kms in 2.5 hrs. If you go left along the rocks at the bottom, you can add some extra distance. The hard bit is uphill at the start with the amazing views. Toilets are at the carpark which has heaps of parks even on a busy day. Cafe located at the carpark too. Heaps of people were fishing for paua and kina in wetsuits and snorkeling.

Really nice walk, challenging on the way up, but worth it for the views. Takes about 3hrs to do the full circuit back along the beach. Would be a really nice picnic lunch destination. Heaps of families swimming at the beach at the start on a nice day.
