Great walk along the Kaiwharawhara Stream. Hiking boots are recommended for various terrains along the track.
Excellent off-leash dog walking trail. Very clean and beautiful walk next to stream. No toilets/rubbish bins but still worth the trip. Went on a very windy day but it is very sheltered. There are many access points along with street parking. We started in kaiwharawhara at the bottom and walked up then walked back down. My dogs thoroughly enjoyed themselves and meeting other dogs, excellent way for them to be social. Was recommended to park in Crofton Downs then walk down also.
Great "rugged" bush and stream sanctuary in the heart of suburbia. The trail spaces are small and narrow so if you want an open park, head elsewhere. Yes there are dogs off leash, but they're mostly interested in each other and the water. You'll love the green, water and rocks. It's an especially fantastic place in the summer heat. You get enough light but with plenty of shade. So many fantastic visual treats for you, that if you've never been before you will leave surprised. The upper reaches are more up and down, but arguably better trailed. The lower sections along the stream are flatter but the trails are more "rustic" - you'll want to keep your wits about you. So many access points and now better parking on Kaiwharawhara Gorge Road (the bottom part of below Ngaio Gorge Road.)
Still the best off leash dog park in Wellington, long bush walks, some flat, some up and down. Multiple entry sites, Kaiwharawhara, Crofton Downs, Wilton. Be aware that there are Karaka berries.
A quiet place in the middle of a great city.
Off leash exercise area for dogs. Shady in the hot summer and water to drink for the dog in the creek. You can meet lots of dogs there. I love it.
An awesome area to bring the dogs and explore.
