Authentic Japanese food in Northshore. My friend loves having snack and Asahi beer at this place. The yakiniku beef on rice is particularly delicious though the portion is quite modest. Beans with sesame sauce is also nice. The tofu salad was just right.

Cute small japanese restaurant. The restaurant is clean and has a comfortable athmosphere. The staff is very nice and helpful. They seem to like working there and do a lot for the positive vibe. What I've ordered so far: Takoyaki - new favourite dish at Coo's, I just had it today and it was so creamy and delicious! Gyoza - absolutely amazing, especially with some soy sauce. Can 100% recommend this as a starter or to have with a drink. Katsu don (Pork) - was amazing, it could do with some extra tonkatsu sauce for the rice but was still very (!) good. Ikageso - delish little calamaries. Nothing more, nothing less. Karaage don - the karaage was nice and juicy. I am not yet sure how it compares to the chicken katsu don but can recommend. Eel don - beautifully presented and I loved it, but I like eel in general, so if you are not big on fish, I would not recommend this. Umeshu - nicely presented and tasty, reminded me of some dried plums I've had back in europe

Food took quite a bit of time because there was only one chef and one kitchen hand it seemed like? For a Japanese restaurant their prices are on the lower side, but the taste and quality are not compromised! The flavour of the curry and udon soup were great, the only area of improvement would be for the spicy teriyaki salmon which was not spicy at all (unless they got the order wrong, but I didn't check). The sashimi was fresh and the salmon avocados roll was also delicious!

Ordered: Medium sashimi boat, Katsu Chicken Curry (comes with rice) Teriyaki Salmon (does not come with rice), rice, miso & green tea. Awesome food, friendly staff. Highly recommend to pop in if you are in the Birkenhead area as it's a hidden Japanese Gem. Not a lot of seating, so first in first serve although the turnover is quite fast. The food was lovely, I enjoyed all the dishes with my fiance and cleared them up a treat. One thing I would mention, is that if you are a large eater you may have to order a few items, as they are not large portions.

Beautiful food, awesome service. My fiance and I decided on a whim to pop in for dinner and we were not disappointed. The sashimi was fresh and all the food was spectacular. Highly recommend, wish we could have found this place earlier. Ordered the medium sashimi boat, teriyaki salmon w rice and miso & katsu curry delish!

I love this place so much. I go here very often for my fresh sashimi fix, they always have the fish I want. Their green beans and spicy broccoli are also delicious! In fact everything I have tried here I have loved and it is always consistent in quality. I'm super lucky to live so close to my favourite Japanese resturaunt in Auckland :)

An absolute gem, one of my favourite spots in auckland. Birkenhead is so lucky to have this place. The food is always delicious, service always smiley and they make some of the best dumplings in town.

Such a gem! Small and cosy, family run Japanese kitchen. Super well priced for the delicious food. Iβd say this is now an institution in Birkenhead that makes the neighbourhood that much more special. Just go there, you wonβt be disappointed.
