Literally empty theatre, my wife and I were the only ones in there, so we moved seats to the reclining ones and one of the staff came to tell us we can’t sit there…. there were zero other people in the theatre… why does it matter? And this is for tickets that we’re over $50… no wonder people are no longer going to theatres.
We visited the cinema on Saturday with our son, who was excited to have an ice cream from Parlour Lane. Unfortunately, the service we received made the experience disappointing. When we asked for a Choc Fudge ice cream, the staff member kept repeating “which one” while standing far from the fridge, making it very difficult for us to see and point out the flavour. After a few attempts, I kindly asked if she could please come closer so I could show her the one we wanted. She came over slowly, without much willingness to serve, and after completing the payment, she did not acknowledge us or even say thank you. I’ve often seen staff members there who are cheerful, friendly, and happy to serve — which makes the experience enjoyable. However, this time the attitude felt unhelpful and dismissive, and it made our visit far less pleasant. I hope this feedback is taken constructively, so the service can be improved. Small gestures like a smile, patience, and a thank you go a long way in making families feel welcome.
It is nice that Event Cinema at Queensgate offers IMAX. However, the IMAX screen is smaller than the IMAX cinema I have experienced. I think it is the only place you can watch IMAX in Wellington. The venue is clean and well organized, especially the toilet, which is very clean! This place also offers an arcade area where you can play some games before going to the hall. Such a lovely place!
Really delivered with this 2001 IMAX experience. On the bigger side of imax screens and even tho it's only 4k the clarity was still really good (If your wondering how large placing your phone to your nose is about how big it is) Sound setup was truly amazing too as well as the seating, pay that extra for the reclining bring in a blanket and I'd pass out on those chairs. And portions here are crazy jumbo drink is 1L and the popcorn is like a 3-4L bucket completely filled got through like a quarter. If anyone is thinking about outside food, they aren't that strict about it here which is something I like I've never had issues bringing in some whittakers, box of magnums etc. as long as the packaging isn't loud and you buy at least something at the bar they are pretty chill.
Contact less booking and getting movie tickets. Have game arena and food counter. The theatre was warm, good, clean, comfy, visuals and audio were perfect. Recliners are nice but very near to screen. I would prefer to watch far from back for more comfort. Also I had to sit through almost 30 mins of commercials and trailers, probably the longest I've had to wait for a movie to start. Book movie through Cinebuzz app for good price. Lots of parking available on 2nd floor.
Great time at the cinema indeed fantastic experience with great seats and atmosphere for all... Definitely enjoyed the games thay had there too play also...
Brunch followed by a movie. Logged into our original Events Cinema account & booked our seats & goodies prior to the movie. Enjoyed watching Guardians of the Galaxy.
Newly renovated, the arcade looks amazing but didn't had a chance to try my hands on it. IMAX theatre truly lived up to the experience. Recliner seat is okay. Maybe I'm a bit short, not as comfortable as I thought. Having said that, Avatar was 2.5 hours, definitely much better experience on the recliner than regular seats. The haptic feedback was also a nice touch.
Really colourful and tidy. Great arcade machines and heaps of room to walk around. Cinemas were a decent size and were clean. Picture and sound quality were great also. Heaps of leg room too. I'm 6'3 and had no issues. Very expensive though. I went with another adult and 3 kids to a movie and it cost $82.50 for just the movie tickets.
Avatar in 3D/IMAX needs to be seen to be believed. Truly amazing - pay extra for the recliner seats if you can as well. The new complex isn't fully ready yet but as long as you book in advance (tickets) and turn up early to buy snacks you'll be fine.
