   My usual mechanic recently closed down, so I wanted to support a local business closer to home. Based on the positive reviews, I booked my car in at Midas Newtown for a WoF and diagnostic scan. As someone who doesn’t know a lot about cars, I put a lot of trust in mechanics to be honest and fair about what needs fixing. I was quoted over $1,700 for repairs that were supposedly required to get my car back up to WoF standard. That felt excessive, so I decided to get a second opinion, and thankfully I did. It turned out that all my car needed to pass the WoF was a simple lightbulb replacement. While the team at Midas were lovely to deal with, I was really disappointed by this experience. It left me feeling like I was being taken advantage of, so unfortunately, I won’t be returning.

   Very complicated situation with a recent wof inspection in which the office went out of their way to refund $700 that they seriously could have gotten away with not refunding. (This was for a car belonging to someone who left the country and is never coming back, and they were aware of this.) I was really surprised with this business' integrity; where I come from car mechanics are famous for overcharging. Thanks to Clint and the team

   Had arranged to to be there first thing to get a service and was waiting out front when they opened. I was told it would take 2 hours, so I came back in 2 hours only to be told they hadn't started and would be ready before they closed! I deliberately phoned and got the first booking of the day as I had told them I had to drive up to auckland, and was messed around, didn't end up getting my car serviced, total waste of time. Would not recommend!

   Nice and friendly staff! I've been here a few times and I will definitely continue to come here in the future. I'm adding to this review because I was touched again by their super professionalism and friendliness. I went to their place late Friday afternoon urgently because of the alternator issue and told them that I would need to drive to Auckland Saturday. They figured out the issue instantly and tried very hard to source the parts for my car. I was so glad that the car was nicely fixed and I was able to drive to Auckland safely and happily Saturday morning. Thanks again, guys! You are super helpful! :-) I highly recommend their service again!

   Midas Newtown are dodgy mechanics! I took my Ute in there for a basic wheel bearing replacement. Thinis lied to me on a number of occasions and even had the cheek to slash one of my tyres on the front passenger side after i layed a complaint with head office. They were brand new mud terrains and were not cheap! I am appalled at the bahaviour of these mechanics. He didn’t just replace the bearing he replaced the entire whee hub and charged me $400 for it. I called motex who supplied him with the hub and asked how much they charged him and it was under $250 so he added on his own little fee for getting the part. I could have just as easily got the part and saved myself $150. And he charged me $20 for greasing the bearing. An entire containter of grease is less than $20 and he would have used a fraction of a containers worth of grease on my bearing. DODGY MECHANICS AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Head office has done nothing whatsoever to help me through this dodgy business.
