    Tucked upstairs on the main road this hidden authentic Italian gem has the charm and flavour of the real Italy. I had the Avocado Scallopine (scnitzel) and it was delicious. The flavors took me back to my time in Genoa, Pisa and Roma of Italy. It was the perfect proportion too.

Beyond the amazing food, the warm and welcoming atmosphere made the evening even more special. The staff were incredibly friendly, and the owner’s generosity left a lasting impression on us. They also treated us to two glasses of Limoncino liqueur, which was absolutely refreshing and the perfect way to end our meal. We highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an amazing dining experience. Great food, lovely ambiance, and excellent service—everything you need for a perfect night out.     I'm giving Portofino 5 stars all around as we absolutely loved the food, service, and atmosphere during our holiday in New Zealand. It was so good that we visited them again before we left...twice in one week for dinner! I definitely recommend dining at Portofino. All of the food we ordered were great from the Lasagna Al Forno, Fettuccine Di Pollon, Vegetarian Fettuccine Vegetarian, Cannelloni Casanostra. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. They even offered and opened the window and had fresh air while enjoying our meals. We forgot to take pictures of our food the first time we dined in...that's how great it was! The pictures below are of what we ordered on our second visit!

    We went to Portofino on the worst possible day. There was a lights show at the Viaduct and tenths of thousands of people were expected to attend. Every restaurant was packed. However, Portofino helped us to a table, without booking, after we failed to find a table at other restaurants. Once inside, it was clear they were quite busy, but the waitress was very nice to us. Once we ordered it took 50 minutes for the food to arrive and we complained. The waitress was kind and offered the kids ice cream as a compensation for the wait. I ordered the red wine steak. It was great, as seen on the pictures. I enjoyed the taste, although I prefer a bit more quantity. In summary, on a very difficult day, we were satisfied and would happily keep coming to Portofino.
