The kitchen at Thank God It's Fryday Fish n Chips takes a classic fish-and-chips path and lets the food speak. Portions suit sharing without losing balance. Team members keep things friendly and on task. Portions are generous yet well judged. Value feels fair for the spread.
Fish was not fresh, in fact inedible. Batter in potato fritters and the fish was overcooked and close to burnt. This used to be a very good chippy. Not spending my money there again.
Born and bred from the South Island Blue-code is a favourite! Coming home from Australia to the North Island for a Tangi in Mahia alerted me to the fact Blue Cod was not easy to find : /! Thank God it’s Fryday Fish&Chips were there! Great food and great service, I got the last Blue Cod fillet they had that day, and it was great!
I have given this 4 stars only because the other 3 times the terakihi and chips have been almost faultless but today it was a big let down. Chips were chewy and oil tainted and needed changing and the piece of Terakihi quite small. Come on people..I told others how good you were and its a let down when this happens. I was hoping we had found a fishnchip shop which was consistent..now I am.hoping this will be a one off experience.
Chips here are 5 star. Crispy on the outside, soft in the middle. I asked for extra salt, perfect. Fish was a light crispy batter. Oil was fresh, not soggy or old. I'm a fussy fish n chip guy, this passed the test.
Hanging up the phone, when wishing to make an order is why I've had to give this fish and chip shop a one star. Why cant someone just say, " Hi could you hold please" I drove past and saw 3 people, 2 waiting and one coming out the door. Napier needs a shake up when it comes to communicating with the public. I'm so ready to move away to a place that has good food and attitudes.
Fresh Fish, whole Scollops and chrispy Batter..good selection of chippies too..you can choose from Shoestrings, Standard or Wedges with a selection of toppings and seasonings
Not enough staff. Tried to do phone order and thinking they were really busy went to shop and not busy at all. Waste of time trying to do phone order. Average food. Addit on 20/5/19 still really bad at answering phone. Eventually got through yesterday at 7pm for an order to pick up at 7.45 as Google said open till 8pm on Sundays. Woman said we close at 7.30 on Sunday and hung up! I have today been to shop and in shop window advertise closing 8pm too. Was a mature lady, so I am sure it is the owner.
