Nice and quiet place. Gets busy with RV campers, especially big ones over two parking spots. Public toilets available and "shower" to rinse salt water. Popular among local surfers and fishermen.

A fenced area providing a habitat for birds. The population of dotterels and oyster catchers has especially benefited from plantings in the area by local volunteers. It is now a well sheltered sanctuary for nesting birds. The reserve is bordered by the ocean and Pukehina estuary. There is a short walk out to the tip (point) of the reserve, which is well worth doing.

A delightful free camping spot with the rolling surf beach out of one window and the lovely estuary out the other

Beautiful empty beach, except for the birds. Was a week day, Can imagine how full it will be over summer holidays. Wonderful place regardless. Building a big new Surf Club. Very flash

Wonderful location for a family out.. the harbour looks to be safe for swimming and. When walking around the head land I saw people surf casting off the beach and catching fish.. Always a good thing.

Nice place for overnight stay for self contained vehicles. You can stay up to three nights. There are public toilets and rubbish bins available there, also a picnic table. Great place for mussel picking and fishing, walj on the beach, play on the beach for kids. There is a playground close by as well. Short drive from here fish and chips shop where tou can buy some basic groceries too. We really enjoyed our short stay here.

Beautiful spot to spend a freedom camping (self contained only) night. Toilets were clean and working, morning view was beautiful! We didn't see the text under the "no campers here" part of the fence as we arrived late and the picture seemed like more of an "allowed", so make sure you park on the western side of the lot to avoid breaking the rules :-)

Best swim in big waves I've had in over 20 years and if you dont want the waves the estuary is right there with crystal clear water
