   Good spot, but super busy. We had a few good hits from kahawai, its all i saw anyone catching but seemed to be a great spot, beach is nice and access is good.

   This is now overfished,the old wooden wharf is now a concrete monstrosity thats dirty as fish scales and guts every where, overflowing rubbish bins,it smells of piss..Too many people go there now and dont look after it.,Pretty disappointing as the The Cut used to be the place to go to fish.

   Less than 40 minutes from Papamoa, you can be in a part of New Zealand that feels remote, no store, no houses, just natural sand dunes, a river mouth, and a sandy beach. It's a great place to visit, or go to cast your rod and fish. Leave all your cares and the world behind, step back, and enjoy a quintessential NZ North Island beach.

   It feels like the old NZ that I left in the 90's. I have just returned for a visit in 2023, to find that lovely old New Zealand spot full of local families fishing and relaxing together. There's plenty of walking to do down the spit towards Maketu. Make a day of it, and combine the river mouth and spit with the near by Kaituna Wetland. Finish the day at a café down at Maketu

   Perfect for a day and night surfcast, lots of parking, but be sure to meet a packed beach regardless of the time. Love fishing there, great spot, family friendly. Take a BBQ out and Maketu Beach around the corner for pipis.

   If you like a walk along the beach, do the Kaituna Cut Reserve. We did it with two dogs and just enjoyed it to hear the waves rolling on the beach. Many nice shells to find.
