   Was in little waihi getting pipi. Decided to get some hot chips to go along with. Debated wether or not to come here or go to te puke. Unfortunately decided to come here. Ordered 4 scoops of chips, $24. Took 25 mins to get. Majority of that time was due to the sloth pace of the workers !!! She took 5 mins alone wrapping 2 tiny packs of chips. I dunno how much the weight drops after frying, but you weighed the chips, so yes, i weighed too. Cause this some bull. $6 for 400g. Mmmm dunno if the scoop weight drops down to half of what i I payed for.... disgusting, will never come back here. Also, $6 for a hotdog. Ew. Also, chips were horrible. Also, $5 pp to sit and eat in is just, ugly. Not it. Edit - if i came in and mentioned it wasnt enough chips, i doubt i would have gotten more, i saw her weighing them by the chip, how many scoop worths though, i dont know. i mention the sitting in fee, as a family of about 8 asked about sitting inside with their fish and chips, and they were disgusted when they found out about the 5pp. So thats why. Thank you.

   Very unpleasant food for top dollar prices. You only receive what they feel like putting on your plate, not exactly what you ordered and are paying for! I feel sorry for your staff tbh.. they clearly don't wanr be there. And they clearly don't get taken care of from there boss! I highly doubt they'd be serving people food and unpleasant service if they were appreciated.!! Definitely won't be back!

   Waited an hour and after some prompting for cooked dishes, prawn salad and loaded wedges, coffees and thick shake came out quickly, cabin food took half an hour, which was finished by the time other meals arrived. Was here a few years back, cafe was lovely, it now needs a spruce up eg windows and food cabinet glass needed cleaning

   We loved it that they allowed our dog to go into the outside dining area while we ate. Shaded, open and enclosed areas for all weather options. It could use a tidy up, but the location can’t be beat.

   This has always been our special go-to place but last couple of times has been a bit disappointing. Staff are lovely, setting is perfection, but feel the food is not as good. I had fish of day which was quite dry and chips were lukewarm. Used to be able to help yourself to tartar sauce but now get rationed to small quantity of tartar, and tomato sauce, which I don't like. Because we love the location we will still go there, but just for coffee and cake.

   Visited on Saturday for lunch. The weather was brilliant and the view was fantastic from the café, sitting in the covered conservatory. We got there at 12pm and the café soon filled up. We had 3 orders of fish and chips which was delicious but our meals did take more than 30 minutes to arrive. Would have liked a little more salad for $30 per plate. But we will be back again. Great spot. Have had takeaways from here a few times as well and they are always delicious too.

   We ordered from the table via a web link and our food came fairly quickly given that there was a large group of bikers there as well. The coffee was sensational, hot and strong. We had a large breakfast and a vege breakfast…both delicious. Staff were friendly. Lovely views. Clean and tidy.

   Had a delicious meal of wedges here last Thursday, everything cooked to perfection - coffee was sublime also. Staff were friendly and helpful - highly recommend for anyone looking for a tasty lunch when out this way!

   One of the few places in NZ where you can eat right on the water edge. The place felt a bit empty, could do with some cheering up, but perhaps they were shortstaffed as many places still seem to be. We had a lovely time. Found it a bit pricy

   Even at the height of flooding season, you can find serenity at the Maketu Beachside Cafe & Restaurant. The staff are never rushed. The rat race passes them by. They will come to your when they are ready, and they will give you the most perfect fries you’ve ever ordered. You will look out at the ocean views and taste its salt in each bite. A wonderful lunch spot.
