This is the best Mexican Iβve been to in NZ, seriously. Fantastic portion size, the platter for 2 was something special. The chefs are skilled operators who know how to cook Mexican food. We will be back!
Authentic Mexican Food, I always order the ceviche and is always the same quality, taste and freshness. Tacos are yummy too⦠And you have to try the churros, they taste just like they do in Mexico.
Service with a smile guaranteed, food and atmosphere were great. Only criticism would be no spice level option. Would be nice to chose what spice level youβd like your dish to be. However spice level is mild to cater for all. Extensive menu that considers many dietary requirements Would go back.
If tacos were drugs, I'd be in serious trouble. El Cartel Mexicano's tacos take me back to the dry, dusty streets of Mexico gorging myself on tacos al pastor y carne asada. The wait was a bit long on Taco Tuesday, but worth it for every delectable bite. Many have tried in New Zealand to create great tacos but this wins my gold medal.
El Cartel brought their caravan along to my wedding and catered dinner and then brunch the next day. Amazing value, super friendly staff, and best of all, really, really good food. 10/10. Would recommend and would use again!
El Cartel is a must do if you're in the Papamoa Beach, Mount Maunganui or Tauranga areas. Amazingly fresh and delicious food in such generous sizes!
Been wanting to visit this restaurant since the rumor of a Mexican restaurant coming to town reached my ears, and this place did not disappoint. Food was wonderful, staff were friendly and welcoming. The place was busy, which I was pleased to see. So why only 4 stars? Because I'm leaving room for the restaurant to grow. They're still working on getting their flow. But hey, that means we'll be coming back as it grows, which I'm excited about. I love Mexican food, and this place is authentic. Not a commercial knock off. Kids menu, a little play area, beer, wine, spirits, cocktails and corn chips. Yip. Well priced, probably a bit too cheap for the quality of food, if I'm honest. We'll be back again soon. Beef burrito was wonderful and the freshly made salsa was fantastic (ate half of it before we remember to photograph!)
