mediocrity reigns? 3 big "No NOs" in food service hospo imho- raw undercooked pork- underdone or dry chicken- UNDISCLOSED surprise CHARGES when examining bill of sale- we didn't order pork or chicken- beverages dear and unremarkable- coffees bland- would you believe $9.10 for a large one in a paper cup? pastry over the sausage roll was gluggy doughy left uneaten- Quiche dish heavy on dried apricot- unremarkable and dear for what it was. n.b undisclosed $$ was added for a lettuce leaf! "flippant last second remark by cashier 'do u want a side salad with that?" No price listed at sale point, in cabinet, or verbally. We asked for DOCKET , examined same , as total seemed VERY high for a single beverage and 2 small snacks- There is was ! 6 bucks ADDED- no disclosure- for little more than a lettuce leaf dropped on a sorry plate- near 20 bucks for tiny clumsy quiche worth ...at BEST $5 ?? it was small. wasn't very good , though to be fair..twas better than the sausage roll. atmosphere is ok- indoors bad accoustics, however SUNNY courtyard is fine - bogstandard chairs tables, car park big on outskirts of Hastings city. yes we asked about the undisclosed charge- NO, there was no apology for what we consider 'negative bias marketing' and unrepentent bill building- . Floor staff are lovely. This is a quasi self service pre pay system. Fairly tidy loos outside. Central location between Napier -Hastings - beaches- has a following, a wide selection of nz legacy dishes for all ages- NOT a foodie place- Mediocity in full blossom. Hastings can do SO much better- check out mom n pop NEW cafe/restaurant called CONVERSATIONS at 944 Heretaunga near Stortford lodge- FINE food in same price bracket as THIS very 'ordinary' fare = a no brainer.

Excellent service. Seafood Platter was next level. Scallops, salmon, mussels, prawns, smoked fish and much more!

Basic cafΓ© with nothing particularly special. The keto menu is a good option, but overall the flavours are bland and the prices donβt feel worth it. Nice spot in summer, but not somewhere Iβd go out of my way for nor come back.

Amazing food and drinks. Had some great lunch and even took away some of the cheesecake and the famous custard square. Unfortunately, those desserts looked so good that I forgot to take a photo but let me tell you: they were every bit as good as they looked. Staff was friendly and welcoming. Think the interior could just use a bit more lighting to make it a bit more welcoming. Outside area was very nice but it was too cold on that day to sit out there.

Serendipity CafΓ©βs a bit of a gem, aye. Their custard squares are the stuff of legendβproperly creamy, with that perfect flaky pastry. But theyβre not just a one-hit wonder; the cabinetβs always packed with goodies, and the made-to-order menuβs spot on too. The staff are friendly as, which makes the whole experience even better. Definitely worth a visit!

Nice service, coffee, and hot drinks were delicious. Promptly served and the world famous in HB custard slice was a generous portion - 2 people shared and lived up to its reputation. Easy parking and easy access.

Second time to the cafe, after 1st time was amazing. However very different experiences, as meals come out quick which was great but the bacon and eggs were not hot like just been cooked fresh but like it had been cooked earlier and heated as the bacon was cold and had to send back to kitchen to get heated again. However on positive side the custard squares are amazing. Could be a one off experience so will be back again for second chance. As could of been having operational issues

I went for the world famous custard square, but also had the lamb burger. Both were worth the visit.

Been here a couple of times now, and not been disappointed. There is plenty of indoor seating, and a decent amount of outdoor seating too. The menu is pretty much a standard all day breakfast / lunch style menu, but cooked beautifully. There is also a good kids menu, but with having toddlers who change what they like day to day we find it easiest just to get them chips, and have them eat off our plate. You have to order from the counter, which is standard of a cafe, but their table service is efficient and friendly. Last time we went we were expecting a far longer wait than we had for our food due to the amount of people there, and also we had been told to expect a long wait. There's also a great selection of sweets items for those with a sweet tooth, and the custard squares are a must. They're the best in NZ! This is a must do when in the Hawke's Bay!
