On the plate at Governor's Cafe, the idea is coffee-and-cabinet and well executed. Cabinet bakes and slices round out the stop. There’s room for a casual brunch with friends. Wait times are contained even when busy. Cakes and scoops finish things neatly.
I adore this cafe. The staff are always super friendly and my kids enjoy the playroom. The menu has enough variety to keep me happy and the food is delicious. It is always my go to with the kids.
the apple crumble pancakes were ridiculously good! i’m sad i don’t live in dunedin so can’t get them all the time! The staff were super kind too especially the man on the front counter - when i ordered a smoothie wanting to have it for taking away, he offered to wait till i was done with my meal to have it made! small gesture but made my day, and it was delicious as well. i absolutely recommend that you try this cafe.
Visiting from Christchurch we were looking for a child friendly cafe. This place is amazing! Great atmosphere, play room upstairs, high chairs, child's menu and accommodating staff! Great value for the food you receive and coffee is great! Definitely a new favorite!
It was a sunny morning, and breakfast at Governor’s Café turned out to be a delightful choice. Known as one of Dunedin’s oldest breakfast spots, established in 1977, the café exudes a warm, welcoming atmosphere that complements its reputation .  The menu is extensive, offering everything from toasted muesli and waffles to ciabatta-based dishes. I opted for the Big Brekkie—a generous serving of bacon, eggs, grilled tomatoes, and hash browns atop toasted ciabatta . For those preferring lighter fare, options like eggs with mushrooms are available.  Service was friendly and efficient, and the coffee, made with locally roasted beans, was smooth and satisfying. The café maintains a clean environment with well-organized seating, enhancing the overall dining experience. Prices are reasonable, offering good value for the quality and portion sizes. Overall, Governor’s Café provided a pleasant breakfast experience, combining hearty meals, attentive service, and a cozy setting.
Pancakes had a hint of garlic, but I kinda dig it because the staff who made it were fine asffff, like I should have asked for his number fr. A hot waiter man came up to us and I told him abt the pancakes and he smirked and my heart flew across the ocean. So sexy, if you like garlic and buff staff come here.
The food was huge disappointment as I had very high expectations based on the reviews. I love pancake especially chocolate but this one wasn't good.
10/10 breakfast, and amazing coffee! Black pudding too!!
Nice cafe and great food, though not much variety of selection for cabin food this time. A nice atmosphere to enjoy a quick coffee.
Love this place. We went for a Mum and Daughter date and pancakes. Food was delicious, coffee is always good, the giant squiggle tops are amazing, the loaded wedges are the perfect comfort food. My only problem was I couldn't eat it all. I tried though.
