Rising Sun is easily one of the most authentic Northern Chinese restaurants in Dunedin. The chef cooks with real skill—the flavors are rich, fragrant, and exactly what you’d expect from proper home-style northern dishes. Every meal feels hearty and satisfying. A wonderful spot if you’re looking for genuine Chinese comfort food in the city.
This is my second time eating here. The food is so good and the portion is very big. Me and my friends have an excellenr experience. Will comeback again
Bangin’. Fantastic staff. The Special Flavoured Eggplant was incredible. The prawn noodles were fantastic, good flavour and deliciously savoury, and the vegetable dumplings have to be some of the BEST I’ve had in years. So so good and delightful. We want more!!
We have heard from work that this place was good. So stopped by for take away. Ordered 2 set of Dumplings - prawn and pork & vegetable. Sweet and sour. Price is not bad. Service was OK. The lady was friendly but her English is not good. You just have to be a bit understanding that English is not her first language but service is good. Shop is just a little bit rundown but food make it up for it. Menu is Hugh. I wish I could try them all. Look great.
The lunch Box was brilliant and I love the dumplings by the way! The noodles are also worth trying!

Nice environment, nice food. Very full. They given us some fresh dumplings, very yum. Definitely come back again.
The food (salted chicken noodle soup and shrimp dumplings) was really good and the staff very friendly and helpful!
