The kitchen at Mayflower Takeaways takes a classic fish-and-chips path and lets the food speak. Value feels fair for the spread. Takeaway holds up well on the drive. Woks keep a quick pace and good sear. Portions are generous yet well judged.
First time order Chinese meal here. Sorry to say we are very disappointed with the food. :( They were so bland and tasteless. The service was good and friendly but the food was not good at all. We won’t return for more meals here unfortunately.
Perfectly cooked fish and chips, the batter is light and crispy, we ordered 2 fish, 3 wontons, lemon chicken. fried rice and 2 scoops of chips. Everything was absolutely delicious!!
Have tried all the 3 takeaways on South Road for fish and chips. Mayflower is definitely the best. I especially like the hot chips, not particularly crispy but taste really good for a takeaway. Portion size for chips is significantly smaller compared to other takeaways. But I don't even mind as I prefer quality over quantity. I go there about twice a week just for chips, that's how much I like their chips. Never ordered other meals from the menu as we're only after fried foods.

This is the best place for Chinese takeaway in Dunedin! Were working our way though the menu and we haven't had anything that isn't great!! Try the sweet and sour chicken, fish, wonton can't get enough!
Dunedin has alot of piss poor quality takeaway shops. This place however is hands down the best. Good quality, fresh, good price and lots of options to choose from.
gone downhill chips are dry and boring with no crunch. burgers very plain and not alot in them. sweet and sour pork has no flavor but plenty of pork and good quality. the only good thing is the fish.
Sweet n Sour Pork nice. Takeways & drove away - no cutlery to eat my noodles, so that made eating/enjoying awkward. Shop however clean & friendly service.
I wanted to get Chinese from somewhere a little different from the usuals and I am so glad I did. The food was fresh and flavoursome. The staff were very friendly and I was shocked by how affordable it was. Will definitely go here again!
