   Dining experience was generally fine, but the food had a LOT of coriander in it. Multiple dishes were covered in it or cooked with it. Tastes like soap to many people so half of our group of six did not enjoy their meals.

   I tried Impression for the first time last night as a recommendation from a friend and it absolutely did not disappoint. The food I had was amazing, piping hot, flavorful and so delicious. The staff were lovely and the atmosphere was great. The food was so good that I couldn’t stop thinking about it so I had to get it takeout tonight as well. 10/10 no notes. This restaurant is going to have to be a regular for me!!

   The spicy beef dish (Shuizhu Niurou) is very authentic, rich in flavor and perfectly balanced in spiciness. During the less busy travel season, the food quality remains excellent and the taste is even better.

   Peking duck was good. They gave sugar for the crispiest skins, which is authentic. They cook the bones for you too. S&p bones so yum with a beer or tea. 京醬肉絲, stir fried shredded pork. I don't understand why they gave tofu skin instead of pancakes or buns. The combo didn't taste bad at all but it wasn't what my husband expected. I wouldn't recommend 毛血旺 at all. They likely used store bought soup base as we requested for no Sichuan pepper, but the taste of Sichuan pepper was so overpowering that you cannot feel your tongue at all. Duck blood was yum though. I would definitely come back for other dishes.

   After trying many Chinese restaurants, I can confidently say this is the one I recommend the most. There's free street parking in the evening, and the place is very popular, even on weeknights. I’d suggest calling ahead to book a table. We arrived late and had to share a table with others, but the staff were friendly and helpful. We tried the Pickled Veg with Pork Ribs and Glass Noodles, Slow Cooked Sliced Beef with Veg, Chinese Tea Smoked Duck, and Sauteed Shredded Pork with Sweet Bean Sauce — all tasted very authentic. Even if you don’t like spicy food, I recommend the Slow Cooked Sliced Beef with Veg — the beef was tender and juicy. The Chinese Tea Smoked Duck was just okay for me — the soy-based soup was a bit too salty.

   Food was amazing coming from someone who has eaten and reviewed Chinese Food all over China and Southeast Asia. The hot and sour soup wasn't overly spicy or sour, the proportion was just right. Love the Smoked Tea Duck, perfect tenderness and smoky flavours that reminds me of 酱板鸭 from Hunan minus the extreme spiciness. The cauliflower was also tasted good. Even the plain white rice was fragrant! Compared to the one we tried in Christchurch, this is way better at more reasonable prices.

   One of my new favorite Asian restaurants in Dunedin!!! Definitely top 3. We ordered so much and everything was so delicious. We started with the pecking duck and it was soooo goood and the portion size was generous. Then we had other dishes like tofu, lamb, noodles and more. We were so satisfied by the end of the night. The staff were very friendly and welcoming too. Definitely coming back again!
