We visited Hong Kong Seafood Restaurant on Christmas Day and were surprised it wasnβt busy β it honestly should have been packed. The food was fantastic. Even our fussy teenager demolished the sweet and sour pork, lemon chicken, and riceβ¦ and asked for more (which says a lot!). Everyone loved the spicy squid, and it was a bonus that they happily made it less spicy for us. The combination fried rice was loaded with meat and full of flavour. The restaurant was super clean, and we loved that you can order fresh crayfish and a wide variety of seafood prepared fresh on site. Weβre a Kiwi family on holiday and were so happy to discover this place. Highly recommend popping in β definitely worth a visit!

We were greeted with a cheerful smile and welcome by Zoe. She was knowledgeable with her menu and provided recommendations. Good to try is the beef stir fry noodles number 98!

Love the service in this restaurant : I think this is a very authentic Chinese restaurant in Dunedin. There is a buffet and a la carte. The Sichuan cuisine tastes very good. The pickled fish tastes authentic. My family and I come here often. The service is also very good.

Went to Hong Kong Seafood Restaurant for dinner. Used to be called Great Taste, or still is called that, not really sure. Google says Great Taste is permanently shut yet this exact same location still trades under Great Taste on the delivery apps, weird. Went for a dinner buffet all you can eat. Food was average with some being not the best and some being decent. A lot of fried foods in the food selection with a few Asian meals. Not much selection as it used to have but it's all you can eat so you can just choose what you want. Service was average or slightly below it. Staff were nice and eventually refilled the empty trays with more food but could be better. Not one time did they come to clear our table of plates so a big mess buildup was inevitable as we were hungry and wanted to try everything. Food was overall kind of average but it's a buffet all you can eat so it is what it is, I've spent more on dinner at other places only to be disappointed and hungry after. Heaps of room for improvement. Would probably go back.

So my review is only a review on the Buffett, it is not the seafood in the pictures, everyone in our group thought it would be, the pictures below are what you get in the Buffet menu, as you can see it is the Previous establishement menu but with a whole heap less in it. The customer service is the huge saving grace an gets a star just for it self

There used to be way more food there and the service is terrible. You also got rid of the all you can eat desserts and the ice cream machine. Great taste is not as it used to be. Because of the new owner. There used to be 5 tables of food now theres 2.

Extremely reduced dinner range. Both the desert bar and salad bar is gone. Watching a stream of disappointed faces after they have paid. One small Bain of hot food for the entire restaurant, under cooked batter one many items and constantly emptying out and customers standing around having to wait for food to come out. Certainly not worth the $120 I spent for the family. Unfortunately it's no where near the experience it used to be.

Very little selection of food, no dessert, fresh fruit or salad. Almost empty the whole time we were there. Kids used to love it but definitely won't be back

I seldom write reviews here but I must do it this time. Great Taste is totally underrated and indeed it is a gem in town. $13 for a buffet lunch with free tea. The food is of course nothing fancy but is practical enough. As a HK Chinese, I know what Chinese food is. Two dishes of vegetables with meat, two dishes of fried chicken (two ways of cooking), fried wontons, fish & chips, spring rolls, chicken nuggets, two different sauces (sweet & sour included) and two types of soup (corn & miso). Fried rice and fried noodles are there too. The environment is nice too, clean and big. Instead of Chinese songs, they played relaxing English songs and that made my dinning experience very enjoyable. Staff is friendly and I saw a waiter (the boss?) bring a dish of vegetables (directly from the kitchen) to a customer as there werenβt a lot available on the buffet table). I went to a noodle shop another day and it was $21 (one bowl of noodle & a pot of small tea). That βs why I went to Great Taste again before I head to my next stop. They donβt serve salad and dessert anymore but it is not a big deal vindy they charge $13 only.

Dropped by for dinner ($22 buffet) and the food was tasty and plentiful. The chef was friendly and came to our table to discuss the food. I think this is a bargain dinner in a very nice environment. The $13 lunch is fantastic value. The fish and roast potatoes were very nice and the vegetables fresh and crisp. Recommended.
