   We are locals and over the last 5 years or so it has been a little hit and miss at the Halfway House for fish and chips. But we were very pleased we tried it again last night, battered gurnard, hot dogs and chips. All fresh, crunchy and tasty. Only minor issue was we felt it was a little salty, we didn't ask for no salt, we couldn't see salt on, but we are typically a low salt family. It wouldn't stop is from going back.

   It was disappointing tonight Small fish for price Too much batter Chips undercooked after we ask for them well done They said 20 minutes we got there in 20. 3 minutes drive home nearly cold. Haumoana here we come

   As much as we like to support local we won't be returning. Very stingy with the fish serving and batter on the fish was doughy and soggy. Chips were ok but not a big scoop either. Sorry owners but think you need to brush up on your cooking and portions. Scoop was only Just enough for 2. Def not value for $$

   Hey, I am a local, this place is consistantly very good. FRESH..Fish choices are great, and battered/Crumbed fresh. You pay for what you get, fillets of your choice, gurnard, terakihi, even blue cod sometimes. If you want shark, then go somewhere else.Chips are good, and squid rings great. Owners are friendly and young staff are good communicators. Must try the burgers they look yumee!

   Got fish and chips, good service but heaps of batter and not much fish . Batter twice as thick as thin piece of fish as seen in pic. Very busy popular place
