The kitchen at rice canteen takes a Chinese takeout path and lets the food speak. The room sits relaxed with an easy buzz. Easy to carry out for a simple night in. Fried rice and classics arrive hot and even. Team members keep things friendly and on task.
We ordered a combination tray as shown on the advert photos, and served with a tray full of broccoli, literally full of broccoli. Total scam and we regret ordering in this scam restaurant.

I like to give restaurants benefits of the doubt especially when you have had a bad experience there in the past. The food here is tasty hence the 5 stars for that however, I hate that the staff berate and scream at you, also try and snatch the tongs from you while you are putting food into the undersized containers. Speaking of which don't be fooled about their display containers they are much bigger then the ones you pay for. I have provided a photo of the meal I chose for $17 and would've liked more of if I wasn't told that it was overfilled. Absolutely abhorrent service. I have given this place many chances to tidy up their act and provide good customer service but no....I won't be going back.

Loved their sweet and sour pork, definitely authentic chinese takeaway. Noticed that their dining area and kitchen are clean and well maintained, well done!
On holiday with family we had a meal from the Rice Canteen. I can honestly say it was the nicest Takeaway I have ever had. We really enjoyed the Combination Fried Rice and Combination Chow Mein. Will certainly visit again when in Napier.
The food isn't too bad taste wise in comparison to other Chinese Takeaways in Napier which is why I gave them 2 star, otherwise it would have been 1 star for the total experience. We went there tonight and got a $56 tray, but was told I couldn't "overfill it". I've posted photos, you be the judge. Compared to other places in Napier, this tray is not even half full and would cost around $7-$10 less. I won't be back here again and I told the staff member who told me to "stop" this. There were other customers in the shop and one lady said she wouldn't be back because of what happened to me also.
