On the plate at Drift Cafe, Restaurant & Bar, Napier, the idea is classic fish-and-chips and well executed. A sensible spend for the quality. Sweets lean classic and not overly rich. Good value shows in the serve sizes. Blue cod and other fillets arrive fresh with light batter.

Arrived around 7.45pm Saturday night and seated at table by manager. Waitress came and took our drinks order and asked if we were ready to order, which we were not. Waitress (who was pleasant enough) came back again and asked if we were ready to order again we were not, then the very arrogant manager came up right after her and asked are we ready to order, again I said not quite (lots of choices on menu) He replied well kitchen closes at 8.10. Waitress came back at 7.55 pm and we ordered, food was excellent however the managers table manners a little bit lacking, as soon as a dish was empty he swooped at the empty plate like a starving Magpie, which made for an extremely negative atmosphere. Again food was excellent but will not be going back purely on managers attitude.

Very good meal, the stake was cooked perfectly as I asked for, the salad could have been a little bigger, but over an empty plate for the kitchen is a great sign, top off with an ice cream sunday, passionfruit
Really great service and nice atmosphere. Food was nice and plenty to choose from on the menu. The brownie desert is delicious. Next time I’ve got to try the pork belly.
Although they had shortest of staff the wait time was very reasonable. We ate off the lunch menu and there is good selection. The food was if a high standard and came out hot. The staff were very polite including the nanager which reflected on the atmosphere being very calm and pleasant. Excellent experience
Awesome atmosphere at the Drift Cafe! Gold stars from the wahine waitress that had served me the last couple of nights. She always checked in with my meal and had a lovely vibe. Hot food, timely manner and ability to take doggy bag home (meals substantial but too large on personal opinion) No fault. Will be back!!
Here from out of town, went to dinner here as we stayed at the hotel attached. Was super convenient to just have to go downstairs. The staff were attentive and friendly. To start we had the salt and pepper squid it was OK over cooked which was a shame, I had the pork belly and my fiance had the beast burger the pork belly was nice, the jus was a bit salty and quite dark to be paired with pork. Could have used some apple to go with. The crackling was only half crackling the rest was chewy. My fiances beast burger was a cool experience as he had never seen a burger with the cheese sauce like that ever before, was a really awesome concept. He did say they could have just left off the sliced cheese and just had the cheese sauce as the cheese slices weren't melted and it could have done without. Alright meal super convenient to our hotel of course. the atmosphere is not really there it had other diners but so quite felt like we had to whisper. Very airy and big open space not cosy. Unfortunately we probably won't visit again.
Great casual restaurant! Serves simple homely food with great seafood, the scallops were seared so well and the 1kg mussels was amazing with sooo much white wine sauce, I was so stuffed! Cheesecake was creamy and not baked (just as I like it) and the whole meal came out in great time. The service was fantastic!
