Very cool experience, the cave was biigger than expected. The guide was awesome, great stories and jokes. Fun time in the gondola, everybody was silent, we enjoyed every seconds under the glowworms.

A great experience to tick off on the bucket list. $81 gets a 45 minute tour of the caves, including a boat ride gliding along under the sparkling glow worms. A well laid out huge cave, lots of history and a great experience. No photos of inside the cave as pictures are not allowed. We stayed a Waitomo Top 10 holiday park as part of our journey

Truly a Once in a Lifetime Experience The Waitomo Glowworm Caves are absolutely magical and unlike anything I have ever seen before. Floating through the dark cave while thousands of tiny glowworms light up the ceiling felt like drifting under a sky full of stars. The experience is peaceful, beautifully guided, and very well organised. The guides are knowledgeable and explain the history and formation of the caves in a clear and engaging way. This is a must do experience for anyone visiting New Zealand. Highly recommended for families, couples, and nature lovers.

Definitely recommend, quite unique experience. Note that you cannot take photos inside. It's coldish but not that much. A light long sleeve blouse over usual summer clothes will do. Consider that boat is wet.

I recently had the opportunity to visit the Waitomo Glowworm Caves with a tour group, and I wanted to share my experience. While it may be a bit of a journey from downtown Auckland, the adventure truly felt worthwhile. Before entering the cave, a photographer captures special moments for souvenirs. They do this because photography inside the cave is not permitted, primarily to protect the delicate habitat of the glowworms. It also helps support the local economy through tourism. I have to admit, the photos can sometimes be a little cheesy, but thereβs no pressure to buy them. Once inside the cave, our guide warmly explained the importance of not touching the rock formations, as this could harm the unique ecosystem surrounding the glowworms. When the lights went off, the sight was nothing short of magicalβglowworms twinkled like stars above us, creating an enchanting atmosphere. The walk was about 800 meters, so wearing comfortable, non-slip shoes is essential, especially since the ground can be quite slippery. At the end of the tour, we boarded a boat to exit the cave, and we were kindly reminded to keep our voices low to preserve the peaceful ambiance. As we emerged from the cave, a gift shop awaited us, which was a nice way to wrap up the visit. I found a lovely Christmas ornament there, and the prices were quite reasonable. Additionally, you can retrieve the photo taken before the tour, which is a nice touch. Overall, I found the experience to be quite fascinating and uplifting, connecting with such a unique aspect of nature.

We had an excellent guide T a young male (hiatus name Chris). Our group that we were with however werenβt so good, with the disturbances and doing the opposite to what they were told. Would definitely go back however would be looking at a more private tour.

I hadn't seen glowworms in over 50 years since I did a class field trip from Orewa up to a private farm near Puhoi, so this was a special blast from the past for me. More fantastic for my companion as he had never seen glowworms. I especially like the pupae cave where the larvae had their food catchers dangling. Shame that pictures cant be taken, but I totally understand how that would be a massive problem. Well worth doing to see something you may have never seen before. Our guide also sang to us in the echo cave and she was very good.

Couldnβt wait to see the glow worms. Tickets are available online or in person. There is parking but itβs located down a steep hill. Ok for us but some struggled a bit walking to the facility. The tours are timed. We took just the boat tour through the cave. This was actually more of a walk into the cave with a guide, learn a few things about caves, there are groups just a cavern or so apart and at the end you get in a boat for about 5 minutes. They take you through a small section of the cave where you can see the glow worms. Which were pretty cool to see. Then you get out. Itβs on the princely side for tickets. But if you are looking for something touristy to do give it a go. Note: you arenβt aloud to take pictures until the guide gives you the ok. Which is as you are leaving the cave.

Great experience! These folks are excellent when it comes to meeting the needs of their patrons. We accidentally purchased tickets on the wrong day, so we tried our luck and drove to the ticket office and they were able to transfer our 3 tickets on the spot and the tour started in just a few minutes after that. While we truly appreciated that, the amazing experience didnβt stop there- our guide, Charlie, was knowledgeable and have an interesting tour of the caves. She sang a MΔori waiata for us in the cathedral area of the caves and it gave me goosebumps! Thanks Charlie!

Beautiful park and tour. The guide was very knowledgeable and had a beautiful singing voice. We took the short tour, which was great, but now I wish we'd taken the longer one
