Permit Room delivers a simple, bistro‑style line‑up that’s straight to the point. Serve sizes show solid value. A family‑friendly feel comes through naturally. Front‑of‑house runs with calm, helpful energy. Value feels fair for the quality.
We shared 3 starters and then had a main each. Probably a little too much food, but it was delicious. Also no rush to leave so we got to sit and enjoy the atmosphere.
Sumptuous dishes from all over India, beautifully served. Our big family enjoyed a selection of small plates, before sharing a selection of larder ones. Hyderabadi Paneer and generous Dosa some of our favourites. Gorgeous setting (tiled bathroom with pressed tin roof!) and location by the trams and Victoria Park. Warm, friendly staff. We will be back!
Amazingly flavoured food during our dinner. Not the usual curry house food, authentic flavours and generous portions. Also for people looking for indian style chai, this is the place! Highly recommended.

I visited the Permit Room after being recommended it by friends. I was not disappointed. The food is amazing and very authentic. Such depth of flavors and not like your typical NZ style of Indian food. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for tasty authentic South Indian flavours. They also do amazing cocktails, which was a nice compliment to the meal. Well worth the visit!!! A shoutout to Alyssa for serving us some amazing cocktails, and giving great advice on food selections.
Very tasty and filling meals at a great price, plus has Heineken!!! Staff are friendly and a nice cosy atmosphere.
Amazing experience! Delicious food with authentic taste! Reasonably priced. Good range of options for foods and drinks. Awesome and quick customer service. Great ambience, convenient location and easy carpark. We enjoyed our food. We ordered kerela fried Chicken, mutton curry and porota. We will definitely visit again. Highly recommended :)
Good food very very tasty. Limited menu but awesome. Good customer service. Nice location. Lovely Ambience.. But I think it's a bit expensive. 2 people dinner cost us $56 dollars. I would definitely recommend this place.
