Great walk! You have to park at the Marae car park not where Google takes you. It took us 10 mins to walk from the car park to the start of the trail. Then it took us about half an hour to get to the enclosure which was a nice enough walk. The loop around the enclosure took us 30 mins. Then about 20/25 mins back to the car. So about 2 hours total. It's significantly colder within the canopy of the enclosure so be prepared for that! Didnt see a single other person so I imagine it's a lot quieter than the south entrance.

Amazing . Birds friendly. Track good.

Includes a lovely loop track and lots of native birds, some beautiful forest and a great view from the gate. A bit of a walk from the car park but the track is good. The last 50m is very steep.

Based on my experience, the Northern Enclosure offers a more rugged experience at Sanctuary Mountain. It's less developed, with a 1.5km walk to the entrance and basic facilities. If you're up for a bit of a hike and want a quieter, more natural experience, this could be a good option to see native wildlife. Remember to check the details before you go!

Very nice walk through native bush. We saw several birds during our walk, best to keep quiet and take it slow to spot them all. The loop within the enclosure was very easy and relatively flat. The walk from the Marae car park to the enclosure entrance was tougher and took about 30 minutes total - 10 minutes on the road, and 20 minutes on gravel track - Mostly uphill, especially the last 20 metres there is steep incline to the fence gate (there is a rope to aid your walk on this part) so be prepared to warm up a bit before starting the track. There is a toilet at the carpark and another toilet at the start of the track within the enclosure. Overall happy with the experience!

Amazing place glow worms light track at night. Friendly bird species . Track to enclosure was a little over grown last time I went. Please Respect the locals and park down by the Mariae

Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari is the longest pest proof fence in the world and its Northern enclosue has Te Ara Tirohia loop track with a distance of 1.1km. Its beautiful track through native forest.

Main portion of hike is along exposed gravel road and then atv trail ever-increasing in steepness. At least 1km before you get there. Rainforest was beautiful. Didn't spy any fauna till we left, seeing 2x kingfishers along the gravel road.

A very easy walk amongst the bush, we saw 2 Saddlebacks and kingfisher on our short loop walk. Be mindful that while the walk takes half an hour it does take around 15 minutes just to get to the entrance from the car park and this walk is very steep in parts
