Track is in great condition right up to Leyland O'Brian Tramline track. Even for winter. Recommend this way in for Hurinui and Te Whare Okioki. No mud and just one stream crossing. ( well to the Junction that is)

Doing a trail run on this track was unpleasant and sometimes hazardous after some rainy conditions. Specifically with left-over railway tracks hidden under the mud. Could be a better option for a hike, but faced lots of gotchas while running. Having a reliable GPS is highly recommended as some routes are not easy to find.

Legit Kiwi hike sometimes following blazes straight up the tangles of roots in places. Not for casual walkers. Nice view of the bush with some birdlife. Appears decently maintained but no other users the day we were out there so it felt very private and remote.

In the bush most of the time. Check the weather forecast before heading out. Stream crossings.

This is definitely a track for more experienced trampers rather than a 'family stroll in the bush'. There are some tricky bits, and the water crossing is hazardous - rocks are slippery and the water is fast. It's a good track for those who are ready for a bit of a challenge.

Awesome bush walk for semi skilled walkers/trampers. I did the loop track, plus more with the Shoe Strings walking group. Track is a close drive from Tauranga.
