Former church converted to a pub, this is right in the middle of the town. Super happening place, great crowd, music and entertainment. Can get busy in the evening and finding a spot may be difficult. Outdoor seating available but look for indoor for the experience. House beers on the menu so try them.

Great food, service, and atmosphere! We were visiting Christchurch, went on a Monday, and the place was packed! Good wine, whiskey, and beer selection. We had the pizza there and it was great! Overall would recommend

We were visiting the town and stumbled into this old church now turned into a bar/restaurant.. the decor , the architecture , the stain glass windows made it very impressive.. they have live band every evening starting at 6pm, some nights they have a second one at 9pm. We had their fish&chips which was delicious and plentiful…the place got quite busy after 7 pm … they do reservations…

An old church converted into a pub and what a top job they have done. The organ pipes behind the bar, the altar area as a music stage….its a great be venue. The food is great too. We had a super meal of chicken wings, haloumi salad and chips - plus and apple juice and Church Ale to drink plus live music from Josh Braden whilst we were there. Great vibe.

Located in the heart of Christchurch, The Church Pub offers a truly unique and unforgettable experience. Originally an old stone church, it has been transformed into a vibrant and atmospheric bar while preserving its stunning architectural heritage. The high vaulted ceilings, stained-glass windows, and the original pipe organ give the space a majestic and almost sacred ambiance—yet with the warm lighting and lively music, it exudes an intriguing contrast of reverence and modern charm. The food here is impressive. Whether it’s a classic steak, fish and chips, or a hearty burger, each dish highlights New Zealand’s fresh local ingredients and generous portions. The BBQ platter and hand-cut fries are especially recommended—crispy on the outside, tender inside, and bursting with flavor, best enjoyed with a cold pint of beer. The drink menu is extensive, featuring not only international favorites but also a fine selection of locally brewed craft beers from the South Island, each with its own distinctive aroma and character. The staff are friendly and enthusiastic, always ready to recommend beer pairings and menu favorites, making even first-time visitors feel instantly at home. As night falls, the colorful glow from the stained-glass windows creates a magical and romantic atmosphere. Whether you’re here for a casual night out with friends, a date, or a quiet solo drink, you’ll find it a memorable experience. Overall, The Church Pub is more than just a bar—it’s a journey through history, architecture, and taste. Blending the solemn beauty of a church with the lively energy of a modern pub, it stands as one of Christchurch’s most distinctive landmarks and an essential stop for anyone seeking a unique night out.

Random drop in looking for lunch, had the fish and chips which was big enough for 2. The building is lovely and roomy with original wood, stained glass windows and organ. They appear to have love music which would be great to see also.

Went on saturday 19th aug. What a great place. Super busy so was a little noisy. Amazing atmosphere though and great surroundings. Fantastic band. The cocktails are over priced though and they didn't have a dedicated mixologist as they stopped making them later in the evening.

Fantastic joint. Excellent vibe and well fitted out - taking into consideration the fact its an ex church. It is a brew pub - so expect lots of beers - and it won't disappoint. Went here on a Sunday afternoon and it was awesome. Live band cranking, nice big screen with the footy playing. Thoroughly recommend a visit.

An almost well perfected fit out of an old building for modern use. Whilst the beverage range was severely lacking, the ability to go next door to Paddy McNaughtons for drinks was good. The live band were amazing and really distracted from the fact that the service was not only slow, but also terrible. Our orders were wrong 3/4 times and we were also overcharged multiple times. I feel like if they had more time to sort themselves out and prepare for a big opening then it may have been worth going. 3/5 stars for the great music and food, losing stars for the service and selection of drinks.

They're still smoothing stuff out here but it's taking great shape. The drinks were delicious and chips perfectly thick-cut and crunchy. Cocktails a bit on the expensive side but the sheer size of the bloody mary and all its toppings - wow! The chicken wings are great quality chook, and nicely crisped. Don't come here thinking you're getting traditional buffalo sauce, but it's a nice medium for a white guy. Most importantly, the space is big, a big dim, long tables - they've made the most of this old church. A real medieval pub vibe. I like it!
