It is a wetland in the suburb of Burwood in Christchurch, New Zealand. An ecological restoration programme is being undertaken to restore the wetland. It covers 116 ha of land formerly drained and used as a dairy farm. The main car park and access point for Travis Wetland is at the end of Beach Road. Easy parking. The wetland is open 8am to 8 pm all year. Dogs are not allowed at the wetlands. There are public toilets near the main car park. Fair bit of walking around on the boardwalk and there is some tree shade. The circuit is long and can take more than an hour to complete. Lots of birds such as swans, swamphen, ducks, geese around - not many animals. Best to go early to avoid the heat. Wear comfy shoes, take water, wear hat, sunscreen. Great place for photography.

Great walk, a lot of space to also have a run too. This isn't a shared space, so you can't ride bikes or scooters here because of wildlife. Paths seem like they would be ok for wheelchairs & prams, but I would say if it's been raining I would suggest holding off on doing a full loop - half of the paths are just gravel.

We took a 1.5 hour walk around the wetland and was delighted by the stunning scenery of birds and New Zealand’s native plants. The bird-watching spots are thoughtfully placedβ€”next time, we’ll be sure to bring binoculars to identify more of the birds. The wetlands’ natural habitats are truly valuable, serving as a crucial filtering area for the entire ecosystem. We look forward to returning for enjoyable walks on sunny days, with sunlight sparkling on the wet waters

Always well maintained. It’s a great 3-4km circuit with plenty of on and off ramps with parking at each side. Pukekos and other natives live here, though you may find sheep/ livestock and neighbouring cats predating the area.

Travis Wetland is one of my favorite places to walk especially at dusk. It's a wild place that belongs to the birds. People move through their home, disturbing them as little as possible. It's a good walk around the wetland - 5km - although I often stop to take in the beauty.

As one of the last remaining wetland areas in Christchurch, it was fascinating to see this place and imagine how the entire region used to look like. There’s one main loop around the entire park, which makes it easy to explore the different areas (info booth, bird watching area, etc). There were several people walking, jogging/running, and just stopping along the path to examine the trees and wildlife. As for getting there, there’s a few different bus stops right in front of the (side) entrance, so it’s not hard to access for those without cars. Although it’s surrounded by the suburbs, it really feels removed and apart from the neighboring community. Such a peaceful place to visit. Highly recommend!

Beautiful place to visit! The road is well maintained and flat. There is a small house for quietly watching/taking photos of birds/ducks/swans. Be careful about the black swans, they can be angry occationally.
