Good grocery, friendly staff, plenty of food options and produce. Lots of parking. It's a large enough 4 Square to be a proper supermarket.
Expensive, staff (particularly the older ones) always look quite grumpy, might be the odd one that doesn't. For the most part, you sort of feel like your being judged.
Consistent problem with their frozen goods being freezer burnt or partially thawed and refrozen again. Been a problem for years, sick of it
Been into every town local Canterbury supermarkets including Christchurch; shopping for locally made foods. But one thing in Four Square Darfield for me is the best compared to all of them: Their locally made bakery foods. Hands down to whomever you are who made them,. Love to be an apprentice baker to someone like you. Wouldn't hesitate to grab one everytime I drop by.
We were parked up in our caravan at Glentunnel for 7 nights so had to do a wee drive half way through to re-stock our food (caravan fridge only holds so much). Really handy supermarket, clean and modern. Yes, the prices are a bit higher but great to have a supermarket within an easy drive with loads of fresh produce, meat and gourmet goodies. Super friendly staff and plenty of parking.

If you enjoy overpriced groceries this is the place to go, you expect things will be, for the convenience, however, the prices here are astronomical, I couldn’t believe it. I stopped buying the fresh baked breads because they were a hit and miss situation. The one thing I absolutely can’t ignore is the blatant bullying.Honestly, if you’re happy to watch a boss spy on and belittle their staff right in front of you then look no further! I noticed it a time when I was shopping and thought how mean it almost seemed but carried on until another grocery shop I saw the same thing! She doesn’t care how that portrays her ‘professionalism’, it’s not running a right ship it looks rude and disrespectful. I’ve seen staff members tearing up on more than one occasion. I suppose that’s why we constantly see new faces. I longer shop here, I do not condone bullying whatsoever. It’s a shame because on the outside it looks beautiful. Unfortunately, in-store tells a different story. Hope they come to their senses - especially being the big fish in the little Darfield pond.
Called in today to pick up emergency item that our 4 Square in West Metlon didn't have. Absolutely disgusted at the staff and their management. Only saw one staff member wearing a face mask, I was told I had to grab a trolley for one item (why risk touching something else that wasn't needed). There were customers coughing on each other and other customers who came in yelling abuse and the staff standing around not stopping any of the crazy behaviour of the customers. Staff were going in and out of the store at their own pleasure and in had to ask to be let out of the store to leave as I had had enough..will not be returning there ever again.Such a shame as the store itself is presented beautifully.
