Best value Thai takeaway in Ōtautahi! Very generous portion size for the curry. Great value. Hot, fresh and delicious. Highly recommend the green curry and chicken curry puffs.
I had been wanting to order from here for ages after hearing good things about this place from Friends. Finally had the opportunity tonight and my review is a little mixed. After reading the other reviews I knew that there would likely be a long waiting time for the food. They opened at 4:30pm, and we called through to order at around 5:10pm. They quoted a wait time of 1 hour and 15 minutes. We were happy with this as we had called in early. The wait time ended up being pretty accurate - which was good service. When my partner came to collect around 6:30ish another person came into order and left pretty quickly after being quoted a 2 hour wait time for food. This seems like a major issue for this place - they can’t handle many orders as there is only one guy cooking the food. We ordered mild chicken green curry and chicken Pad Thai. The portion size of the Pad Thai was great and the Pad Thai was good. For $15 this was great value for money but taste wise was not anything amazing. Unfortunately the big let down for me was the green curry which was what I was most looking forward to / craving the most. Green curry is my usual dish at places at little high, thai orchard etc. On the phone the lady asked if we wanted the curry mild, medium or hot. We said mild and she repeated back to us that it was mild we were ordering. My Partner can handle a bit a spice, but I can’t so I always like to get mild to get a mild spice flavour or no spice at all. THE CURRY TASTED LIKE SPICY WATER. I’m certain I was probably given a hot curry by mistake because it was so hot I couldn’t eat any of it. My partner also said it was very hot and he couldn’t have a lot of it due to the bland flavour / texture. I can acknowledge when a dish is spicy and flavourful - however all you could taste was spicy water. It was horrible and went straight into the bin which is a real shame. No nice curry texture, coconut or anything. I wouldn’t recommend the curry even if you could handle the spice. No flavour, bland and tasted awful - the spice didn’t even match the flavour profile of a typical spicy green curry. Due to the fuss with the waiting time, probably won’t come back here again as it’s not really worth it. Very disappointing :(
Was recommended this place by a freind, it had been playing in my mind to order here as I had tried their lard about three years ago and it was average as. Nonetheless I ordered. We were told 40 mins. We waited some more. With a 40 minute wait you’d expect to walk in and have mutlple chefs gone but no. There was one. I walked in the store and got the food. After a brief and frisk drive home, the smell of this takeaway wofting into my nostrils had me readily for a goon. I then got home. One sip of the Panang curry, One bite of curry puff, one tear of spare rib. I knew I’d hit a gem! Ken oath legends This Thai place is a keeper!
Zab thai has never missed with their food. Their portions are amazing for the price, I hope this place never changes. This is how full my container is after I’ve taken out one serving! Edit: a good idea to ring up in advance as they can have a long waiting time when they’re busy :)
Our go-to Thai takeaways whenever we're visiting Christchurch. We ordered the stir-fried cashew nuts with beef, pineapple fried rice and Tom Kha Gai (Tom Kha with chicken) this time. The Tom Kha Gai and stir-fried cashew nuts were both 10/10 - you just can't get enough of them. The pineapple fried rice we tried for the first time was 8/10 for us, wasn't bad or anything but just wouldn't order again. It had a strong curried flavour and quite rich. We had no issues with the rice, nothing revolutionary but good. Wait times are long (1h30 when we ordered) so definitely pays to call ahead of when you want to eat. Prices are incredible for the portion sizes and taste, hard to find places that do both these days.
It's a takeaway, so there is no atmosphere. 3 for service because they're always busy , therefore your orders are going to take a while, like an hour sometime. Real authentic Thai food

Best takeaways in Christchurch. Portion size for $15 is amazing - always have leftovers for next day. Panang curry is exceptional. Highly recommend!! Note - Peak times wait can be over an hour. Order early!
Everything about this little Takeaway shop is fantastic, I ordered a noodle dish and wontons this evening, and the freshness of the ingredients, and the fact that I can taste the spices that’s great. The spice is so reasonably priced as well, their portions are great. And very friendly service. I have ordered multiple times from this restaurant. And will always go back. Delicious Thai food, and clean kitchen.
Delicious Thai takeaway in Upper Riccarton area. The food was tasty , good portion size and reasonably priced. The waiting time was very long. On a weekday evening I had to wait for 40 min. So be prepared and order ahead if possible. Convenient parking spaces but not many.
